Summer has always been dubbed “movie season.” However, the sentiment or emphasis placed on summer marketing, promotion, and viewing has shifted slightly over time. Summer was once the most popular time for families to go to the movies. This is what gave birth to the summer blockbuster.

According to Hollywood, the concept of a summer blockbuster first emerged in 1943, with the release of Richard Wallace’s war film Bombardier. “Young. Wild. Free.” belongs firmly in the classic coming-of-age genre, as it tells the story of a young adolescent boy whose life changes seemingly overnight. A chance encounter results in a life-changing connection that ignites something within him. As the logline puts it,

“A high school senior with a fiery temper has his mundane existence turned upside down when he is robbed at gunpoint by the girl of his dreams.”

Although the synopsis is explosive, there is no denying that it is simply an amplified version of such life-changing experiences that have shaped our lives.
