“Drew Barrymore” the latest single off of SZA’sCTRL album which was released June of this year is drawing in much deserved attention. Since the video release the songstress has left a major impression on true RnB lovers. The video which was shot in a Winter wonderland of the streets of NYC with a guest appearance from actress Drew Barrymore. Even with an appearance from the songs namesake the highlight of the video was definitely the nude scene shot with SZA crouched down wearing nothing but a vale and purple fedora. The “Drew Barrymore” song was actually inspired by the hit 90’s flick Never been kissed and Poison Ivy which starred Drew BarrymoreClick here to see “Drew Barrymore”.
Directed by Dave Myers the video complements the song well. SZA’sCTRL album which scored the number 3 slot on Billboards top 200 list after its release, is full of real life values for some all too common real life issues that most woman go through in silence. The song itself its touching on being in an unbalanced relationship, low self-esteem and being vulnerable. “ I get so lonely, I forget what I’m worth, We get so lonely, we pretend that this works, I’m so ashamed of myself think I need therapy-y-y-y, I’m sorry I’m not more attractive, I’m sorry I’m not more ladylike…”
The carefree flow of the video makes you feel like you know SZA with very personal lyrics from the track its actually cool to see an artist not be afraid to speak on the things most couldn’t dare to say out loud. Check out SZA’s Album CTRL which is in stores now!!
