East Coast rapper, model, and philanthropist K Goddess stepped into the rap game in 2016 and just a few months later she released her first mixtape “Diary of a Goddess.” Since then, the rapper has recently released an EP, a single and a music video all in the middle of a pandemic. The momentum she has demonstrated this quarantine is nothing new. Being an independent artist, her hustle and drive can be seen through her work ethic.
FM Hip hop had the pleasure of checking in with K Goddess to what she’s doing during the pandemic and find out what she’s got in store in the future.
We know you’ve made music for a few years now, talk about how you got into rapping?
Well, I’ve been making music since I was a little girl. However, I really started taking rap seriously when I got tired of working and being a bartender in a strip club. So that’s what made me super serious about rapping.
The video for your song ‘Pimp’ came out earlier this month and the visuals are dope. What was your inspiration for taking that direction?
My ideas usually just pop up once I record the song. I feel like if an artist records a song and doesn’t have an idea for a video that’s not the right song to put out. I always had that idea to be a psychiatrist. I’ve been wanting to do a video where I did both scenes together. There always wants to do something dope like that because I also want to get into acting a little bit more. It’s been a big deal for me to show people my creativity and show people that I can also be a director. That video came out super dope and I’m super happy and shout out to my team for helping me bring my vision to life.
You’ve put out a lot of music during the pandemic, how would you say the pandemic has affected you? Negatively or positively?
I feel like COVID-19 has definitely helped me in a positive way when it comes to my music. This is because it’s so much going on in the world right now that I feel like all the artists that are dropping right now, the world is paying attention to them. As far as performing and shows like that, it’s slow down with that. That’s expected though because we can not have max capacity. That’s the only thing that I wish that I just was able to perform right now so people could see my stage presence even more. Besides that, when it comes to dropping music, it’s been really dope. For now though, I’m just excited about my new EP that will be dropping in August.
Speaking of COVID-19, you have been giving back a lot to the community during this time. Talk a bit about your philanthropy and what you have done for the community?
So far, I’ve given away at least 30K to my fanbase. I also put in $2,000 to go towards diapers and wipes for single moms, single dads. I’ve given back to the George Floyd foundation and the Breonna Taylor foundation. It’s really dope for me to be able to help my community. I always made that the forefront of me being an artist and I’ve always been that way. This is not something that just happened. I’m happy that I’m fortunate enough to be able to give back and I will continue to do so in the future.
You’ve also worked with the Mayor of New York. What do you want to see change on a local and federal level especially with the election right around the corner?
I definitely want to see the judicial system change because there is a lot going on with police, and police brutality. So I definitely want to be a part of that change. Yes, I recently linked up with the community hub, which is also in connection with the Mayor’s office.
The Mayor of New York and I have had a few conversations myself. I’m really trying to help the judicial system more than anything and to help kids that’s in the system because there’s a lot of kids that’s still in the system. There’s a lot of kids that have parents that have nine to fives or have good working jobs and they just rather give the children to a family member that is not stable. So we’re definitely, communicating to address things like that. But, my main thing right now is really the judicial system and working on police brutality because I’ve seen and dealt with it all my life. So I’m happy that I’m able to step up or at least that I have the fan base or the platform. So to put it to an end to make a change.
What is next for you after the pandemic?
Before the pandemic happened, I had a lot of good deals on the table. I had a lot of networks reaching out to me to work with me. So hopefully after the pandemic, those deals with on the table, those networks are still wanting to work with K Goddess. I’m focused on my EP of course and I’m focused on getting K Goddess’s name everywhere. I want to hear K Goddess name every second of the day and I want them to get tired of me. I want them to know that I’m here. I’m an independent artist and I’m unsigned and I’m doing the groundwork from this day forward.
Is there anything you want to say to your fans before we end?
I want the fans to know that my name is K Goddess and if they don’t pass the Baton, I’m taking it. I’m the only goddess in a rap game and I’m here. Look forward to seeing me everywhere in the future because that’s definitely what’s going to happen.
