The Year of the Youth Giveback was very successful.
The giveback kicked off with a peace walk throughout the community and ended outside of Overton Elementary School. Volunteers from both Chance the Rapper’s SocialWorks and Vic Mensa’s Save Money, Save Life Foundation, handed out more than 2,000 backpacks for the children of the community and filled the bags with various school supplies. Tents were provided for free COVID-19 and HIV tests as well as sections for patrons to register to vote.
The Giveback
Hearing the news that Overton Elementary School had closed back in 2013 definitely hit home for G Herbo. The rapper himself actually attended this school as a child and felt as if it had a positive impact on his youth.
G Herbo felt so compelled, from his own experience as a student at the school, to invest in buying the building and redeveloping it into a community center. His purpose was for future generations of youth to be able to share in the same experiences there as he himself was able to have.
The four artists aim to host more community events in the near future. We love to see it!
