It just goes to show you that the power is with the people.
If you remember, back in November, comedian Dave Chappelle released an 18 minutes video of his stand-up set on Instagram. In it, he went into detail about his long-standing frustration with Comedy Central. Chappelle became a household name after creating and starring in the comedy skit show, “Chappelle’s Show.” However, he left the show at the height of its popularity after having creative differences with the network. Several years later, the “Chappelle’s Show” is still a beloved show that has garnered a cult-like audience. The comedian who served as the inspiration did not like that and had something. He revealed his displeasure about never receiving royalties from the show and not having the licensing rights either. He told fans to boycott the “Chappelle’s Show” and asked Netflix and HBO to stop hosting it on their platforms.
It appears the effort worked as Netflix has once again put the show in its rotation. After Chappelle, this development announced that Comedy Central agreed to his request and paid him past revenue from the front.
“I asked you to stop watching the show and thank God almighty for you. You did. You made that show worthless because, without your eyes, it’s nothing,” Chappelle told the audience. “And when you stopped watching it, they called me. And I got my name back, and I got my license back, and I got my show back, and they paid me millions of dollars. Thank you very much.”
Now, with Dave Chappelle’s blessing, Netflix is set to air the trademark show again this Friday.
