At The Billboard Music Awards, the behind-the-scenes crew made a slight error when DaBaby got his award
When the “Masterpiece” rapper went up to receive his award for Top Rap Song, they accidentally played Post Malone’s “Rockstar” instead of his song, which carries the same name. The highly raved record, “Rockstar,” also took home the prize for Top Streaming Song.
This mixup is understandable, though, due to the common title. Ironically, both tracks have earned serious recognition. Malone’s song reached No. 1 on The Billboard Top 100 chart. Coincidentally, Mr. Jonathan Kirk’s track scored the same spot as well.
Seemingly unbothered by the mix up, DaBaby went up to the podium and started his speech with, “It’s me, It’s me, I’ll live with that.” Then, he continued by giving his thanks to the team behind the music he drops and more.
Although the Billboard team didn’t address it, Twitter went on to poke fun at the mistake. Eventually, the whole situation went viral.
Da Baby has plenty of awards and continues to dominate the charts
“Rockstar” features Roddy Rich. The song premiered on April 17, 2020 as the second single from DaBaby’s third studio album Blame It on Baby.
The song also hit the charts in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and took a high spot on the top 10 charts in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Finland. According to Wikipedia, the music video is set in a zombie apocalypse.
Last June, DaBaby released a “BLM (Black Lives Matter) remake” of “Rockstar.” The other version speaks on the George Floyd protests that began in May 2020, and his own dealings with police brutality. The song earned nominations for Record of the Year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
