One of the biggest stories of the NFL’s offseason has been the tension between the Green Bay Packers and their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Supposedly, Rodgers feels mistreated within the organization, and he wants out.
Reportedly, the Packers offered Rodgers a two-year contract extension during this offseason. The extension would have kept him in Green Bay for another five years. Additionally, it would have made him the highest paid player in the entire NFL.
This off-season, the Packers offered Aaron Rodgers a two-year contract extension that would have tied him to Green Bay for five more seasons and made him the highest-paid QB and player in football.
Rodgers declined the offer, proof it’s not about the money.
Rodgers has had a relatively public feud with the general manager of the Packers, Brian Gutekunst. It’s largely a result of the drafting of backup quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Gutekunst could have drafted some offensive talent to help Rodgers, but instead chose a potential replacement for the now 37-year-old.
Despite his age, Aaron Rodgers is still considered one of the best talents in all of football. He’s fresh off of an MVP season where he led the league in passing touchdowns as well as passer rating.
Green Bay drafted Rodgers in the first round of the 2005 draft, and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2011. It’s unsure if he will actually play for the team in the quickly approaching 2021 season.
