A$AP Rocky proposed to Rihanna in a music video. The music video is titled “D.M.B.” It is not currently known if this was just for the music video or if there is more fact than fiction.
The shooting for the video appears to have been done a while ago; Rihanna’s pregnancy was not showing yet.
The music video shows their relationship as one of constancy. While Rocky holds the average rapper’s public persona, his private life is quite different. It is that of a committed relationship with Rihanna. When Rocky is arrested and gets out, Rihanna is there for him. In a restaurant, somebody tries to show Rihanna some alcohol, which she rejects, hinting that she is currently pregnant. After continuing this life for a while, they start thinking about their future children. Rocky shows Rihanna his grills which asks, “Marry Me?” We cut to Rihanna having her own grills that say “I Do.” They do a flashback of the relationship and hold a faux wedding, complete with a red veil, a kiss, and even have flower petals thrown at them as they leave.
While this does not mean anything, there are definite connections between the music video and reality. While there is the wanting of a child, there is also the arrest. There are some major differences between the music video’s take and what actually happened, but in the inclusion of the scene, there is something to be gathered about their relationship. Keep in mind that this was recorded before the LAX arrest.
Rocky’s arrest in Sweden
We know that they have known each other since 2013. Rocky was the opening act of Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour for the first North American bit. In 2015, Rocky was arrested for assault in Sweden. Because it was shown in the video, I believe that this is where Rocky and Rihanna either first got into a romantic relationship, or this was just part of their early courtship that helped define the relationship.
While we don’t know if A$AP Rocky proposed to Rihanna in reality, the music video is definitely a look back on their relationship over the years.
