Iconic entertainment magazine and women’s clothing company Playboy can thank Cardi B for a dramatic jump in income.
It’s all in the numbers
Earlier this week (May 23), PLBY Group published a report on its first-quarter earnings for 2022 (Jan 1–Mar 31). The report detailed a 63% increase in year-to-year revenue upon Cardi’s introduction to the company. Clearly, Playboy has something to celebrate, with a total $69.4 million growth in revenue. This is quite an impressive feat for the year’s first quarter, coming straight out of the pricy holiday season and COVID-19.
In addition to this, the “WAP” rapper garnered a 125%, year-to-year, $49.6 million increase in consumer growth.
“Our strong first quarter, with 63% year-over-year growth, robust demand for our iconic brand and consumer products and continued progress on our digital roadmap for Centerfold, are coming together into one cohesive Playboy ecosystem, creating a flywheel, driving long-term growth,” PLBY Group chief executive Ben Kohn explained.
“With Playboy’s massive global reach and Centerfold as a valuable engine for organic customer acquisition, we believe we can drive significant growth across PLBY Group’s product offerings,” he said.
The people want Cardi
Cardi is more than capable in the role. In addition to her real-life experience as a dancer, she’s portrayed the club life onscreen with Jennifer Lopez in the 2019 movie “Hustlers.” The East Coast MC attained the creative director position last December. She showed a great deal of excitement upon receiving the opportunity.
“It is a dream come true to officially join the Playboy family,” she said. “I can’t believe this is real. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt connected to Playboy.”

Over the weekend the ‘Up’ artist posted a teaser featuring several Playboy outfits, presumably for sale soon. Firstly, she modeled a black-and-white piece. Secondly, she donned a white number, followed by a semi-viral, all-black fit.

Cardi’s job as creative director includes input on Playboy fashion pieces and accessories. Moreover, she also has a hand in “digital editorial and experiential activations,” according to PLBY Group.
