Dave East made his return with his new song “How We Livin.” The Harlem rapper unveiled the track on Tuesday with a music video directed by Clifford Edwards. This marks the first music from East since “How Did I Get Here,” which dropped in March.
The music video takes viewers into East’s stomping grounds of Harlem, showing a typical day in the rapper’s life. East can be seen smoking a joint while kids play on the block nearby. As day turns to night, Dave East and his friends board a truck to decide their next move.
Dave East’s authenticity shines in the song through his boastful bars. He raps: “I’m the type that’s gon’ shine when it’s darkest out / Hunnid shots that’ll clear the apartment out / I ain’t trying to drive by, let’s go walk ’em down / Ain’t no beans, got that pack they can order now.”
East made an appearance last week at ApeFest 2022, with Snoop Dogg introducing him. The “Hoffa” artist shared pictures of him meeting Eminem, Heidi Klum and others.
“HDIGH” is Dave East’s first project for 2022, serving as a follow-up to last year’s “Hoffa.” Earlier this month, he released a deluxe version of the album, adding four new songs for fans to enjoy.
Method Man, Musiq Soulchild, Trae tha Truth, Anthony Hamilton and Benny the Butcher make appearances throughout the album. The nine-song project includes “Deeper Than Love,” “John Lennon,” “Crash Out” and “Unbelievable,” among others.
The release of “How We Livin” follows the announcement that East will tour Australia for the first time in August. The MC will primarily focus on the east coast of the country, with shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The tour will run from August 18th through August 20th.
