Drake’s “Honestly, Nevermind” Sets Apple Music Record In One Hour

Drake’s latest release, Honestly, Nevermind, is dominating the hip-hop news cycle right now, as per any Drake release. Everyone and their mother is taking to social media to share their thoughts on the album, with reviews ranging from praising to trashing the release.

However, despite the mixed audience reactions, Drake continues his trend-setting ways with his seventh studio album. In just about an hour after its release, Honestly, Nevermind stole another Apple Music record. After setting a record for first-day streams, the 14-track album became the biggest dance album on Apple Music.

A departure from Drake’s typical style, Honestly, Nevermind is full of dance and house beats. It features just one guest appearance on the album, with 21 Savage on the final track. Both fans and fellow rappers are voicing their mixed opinions on the new release. J. Cole voiced his support, calling the album “phenomenal”. However, Charlamagne Tha God ripped the new Drake release, stating that it was “elevator music”.

Apple Music Records Before “Honestly, Nevermind”

Drake is by no means new to taking home awards, especially not with streaming giant Apple Music.

The Toronto rapper still holds the record for the biggest album on Apple Music from his 2021 Certified Lover Boy. Sitting firmly behind that is his 2018 album, Scorpion, taking home second for first-day streams. Indeed, he even holds the biggest song record, with “Girls Want Girls” taking home the most first-day streams in history.

With this latest release, Drake also added his own personal notes to the album. Released exclusively to Apple Music, it defines how this release came at a sensitive point in the rap titan’s life. He stated within the notes: “My urge for revenge wins the game against my good guy inside every single fckn time.”

“Drake Album Sucks!” Seen At Club Following “Honestly, Nevermind” Release

Drake’s newest release sees audiences split in their reaction, with a “Drake Album Sucks!” sign spotted at the club, less than 48 hours after the release of Honestly, Nevermind. While some, such as J. Cole, praise the Toronto native for his latest release, other fans are less than pleased, as seen below.

“Honestly, Nevermind” Reception

Drake’s latest release, Honestly, Nevermind, marks his seventh studio album. It ignited the masses when news of its Friday morning release dropped, as any new Drake project does.

The Toronto native has experimented with different musical styles in the past, testing the waters with everything from the United Kingdom to Jamaica. However, this latest release is a far cry from what fans may passionately refer to as the “old Drake”. The 14-track album stays heavy upon its house and dance focus, resulting in a much more pop-friendly product.

While rappers like J. Cole call the project “phenomenal”, not all of Drake’s fans share the same love for the abrupt change in style. Some are critiquing the house influence in the album, along with his passive-aggressive lyrics exemplified in the Honestly, Nevermind title.

Drizzy responded to the haters via his Instagram, captioning the post: “Then go and leave me again… unreal.”

The Honestly, Nevermind drop came with a number of other Drake projects currently in the works. Firstly, the rapper is writing a book of poetry, set to release sometime in the next year. In addition, new Drake tracks may be closer around the corner than we think, with the Scary Hours 3 EP potentially right around the corner.

For those not familiar with the name Rico Cash, the Atlanta rapper is steadily climbing the charts. After spending some time in prison, he got back to making music in early 2021 after his release. In November 2021, the independent artist dropped The Get Back, his most recent and most successful album. Since his release from prison, Cash is grinding out new music, with another project set to release in 2022.

Consequence Drops Kanye-Produced Single “Blood Stain”

Consequence released his new single today (June 10th), entitled “Blood Stain”. The track is produced by Kanye West, to high praise from his long-time G.O.O.D. Music collaborator.

Consequence announced the drop of “Blood Stain” on Wednesday, flaunting the new single as the “beat of the year”.

The track is reminiscent of vintage Ye, with an accelerated soul sample, steady hi-hats, and a stuttering bass. Consequence delivers with his vocals as well, rapping bars like, “It’s two sides to every claim or a story / For every Megan, there’s a Lane for a Tory.”

“Blood Stain” is the lead single for Consequence’s new album, Nice Doing Business With You. The track was planned to release on May 20, but Consequence postponed the release after a nasty bout with COVID-19.

Past Collaboration with Kanye

This is by no means the first time the G.O.O.D. Music artists have produced music together. Kanye features Consequence on albums from College Dropout to Donda, with the Queens rapper most recently taking a co-writer credit on “Hurricane”. The Donda track earned Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 64th Grammy Awards, beating out songs like “Pride is the Devil” and “Industry Baby”. On the other hand, Consequence’s 2007 album, Don’t Quit Your Day Job, featured a number of beats from the Chicago rap icon.

Consequence has recently made headlines for his apology to Drake. He took Kanye’s side in the pair’s infamous beef, dissing the Canadian rapper on his September 2021 single, “Party Time”. He issued an apology to Drake via Instagram, captioned, “Petty energy ain’t it for 2022… Pardon me for whatever was said about you or your loved ones. Keep doing you, bro”. Kanye and Drake seem to have also come to peace, leading fans to believe this controversy is a thing of the past.

Aurora Pride Parade Cancelled Due To Lack Of Police Security

Yesterday, Aurora Pride canceled the annual parade in Illinois planned for this Sunday. Aurora planned this to be the third yearly pride parade after COVID-19 canceled the 2020 and 2021 parades. This follows the news that there is not enough police security to properly monitor the event. Aurora Pride planned the parade for this Sunday, June 12th, but the city revoked its event permit on Wednesday afternoon.

Aurora Pride states the city informed them they had until 12 PM on Wednesday to find the requisite officers. With the police understaffed, they searched other jurisdictions for the staff. However, unable to find the necessary officials, they lost their Special Events license.

Aurora Pride Ban on Police Uniforms

Much of this issue stems from the parade’s ban on police marching in uniform. Two weeks ago, the organization announced they would not allow any service weapons, police uniforms, or official vehicles in the parade. They cited distrust between the police and the LGBTQ+ community as the policy change. However, they maintained that the policy was to create “the most welcoming environment possible” for all involved. Aurora Pride did encourage law enforcement officers participating in the parade still to identify themselves with t-shirts, flags, or a “soft uniform.”

The police force expressed their displeasure with the change, as they could wear uniforms both in the 2018 and 2019 parades. The mayor of Aurora also withdrew his participation in the parade. He voiced support for those affected in the police department. He attempted to flee the city float from the parade, as well.

Aurora Pride is still committed to making the event happen, still searching for the personnel necessary. Their statement reads: “We’re not giving up. Our position has been misrepresented, and we’re making every effort to keep the parade as scheduled. Thank you for your steadfast support, and please hang tight.”

Past Disagreements With 50 Cent and Madonna

It is hardly the first time these two artists have shared the same headline. At the end of 2021, 50 called out the “Like a Virgin” artist for another suggestive photo shoot, stating in a since-deleted Instagram post, “That’s Madonna under the bed trying to [be] like a virgin at 63. She shot out, if she don’t get her old a– up. LMFAO.”

Madonna then quickly replied, posting the following to her Instagram story.

Next, 50 issued an apology, but it did not improve matters. The Material Girl once again took to Instagram in a two-plus minute video detailing her side of the story.

Court Denies Young Thug Bond In RICO Case

A judge denied Young Thug’s bond on Thursday, keeping the rapper behind bars for the foreseeable future. Judge Ural D. Glanville deemed the Atlanta rapper a “danger to the community” and a potential flight risk. WSB-TV Atlanta reporter Michael Seiden broke the news about the YSL founder with a simple post on Twitter.

The Atlanta rapper was arrested on May 9 along with Gunna and twenty-six more people. The artists face fifty-six charges of gang activities, including murder, robbery, and also racketeering. Young Stoner Life, Thug’s label, also faces charges of being a criminal street gang.

RICO Court Hearing

Young Thug’s lawyers were pushing for a release on bond, with the rapper to be detained on monitored house arrest. They argued that Thug was not a flight risk due to not owning a private jet, despite the rapper’s $8 million net worth. His defense also maintained that the prosecution’s cited lyrics were not applicable, as it is unclear who sang or wrote the words. However, they lost the argument, and the judge denied their request for bond.

300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles offered to financially vouch for Young Thug. Liles also testified on behalf of the rapper before he was denied bond. The businessman maintained that position when informed the cost could exceed $1 million, stating, “I’m willing to back him personally and professionally.” Revolt TV shared the video on Instagram.

Last year, Kodak Black was honored in his home of Broward Country, Florida, with June 11th being declared ‘Kodak Black Day.’ More than enthralled by the announcement, Kodak scheduled a festival on his twenty-fifth birthday this year.

The festival is complete with carnival rides, games, local food vendors, and live artist performances! His jaw-dropping verse on “Silent Hill” brought many fans to Twitter to express their thoughts on the Florida rapper’s eclipsing performance. On top of that, Kodak has some other surprise appearances across the album.

His most recent album, “Back for Everything,” hit shelves on February 25th of this year and quickly shot to Number 2 on the Billboard Top 200. The past few months since we saw Kodak’s visuals for the album. The music video for “Purple Stamp” came out on April 19th. Check it out below!
