Bishop Nehru, a 25-year-old rapper from Brooklyn, posted a video on Twitter Tuesday afternoon showing himself trying heroin.
This event comes with the release of his music video for his song Heroin Addiction.
While in the tweet Nehru said he tried heroin, it is still unclear if he actually did.
However, he has still received backlash from many people for his actions.
Fans took to Twitter to say how irresponsible Nehru’s actions were and said he did it for the attention.
As a response to the negative attention, Nehru said,
“I’m honestly focused on the group that understands there’s a message, but obviously to the losers who think I’m doing it for attention and clout, I have to address them.”
He also stated that he feels like people are overreacting, believes they are taking part in the “cancel culture” and are responding in hopes of going viral.
In another response, he also stated,
“I feel like if anyone else had did something like this, they wouldn’t care, but because it’s me and I’ve worked with DOOM, I’ve worked with Nas and DJ Premier, they’re trying to make it seem like I’m disrespecting them by putting out my art.”
The video also comes with a disclaimer telling the audience “do not try this at home” and that they “do not condone or promote the use of hard drugs.”
Bishop Nehru’s Brief History
He got his start after being recognized by the late MF DOOM in the late 2010s because of his throwback sound.
After being recognized, he released Elevations (Act I and II) in 2018. This project came as a follow-up of a project from 2017 entitled Emperor Nehru’s New Groove.
During the start of his career, Nehru also was able to work with Was and DJ Premier.
Now, he is preparing for the release of Heroin Addiction on May 27.
