BMI Will Honor Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes will be honored at the 2022 Broadcast Music Awards. On September 7, he will be accepting the Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) Icon Award. Also, the awards will be at Club LIV in Miami. The BMI Icon Award is for artists who are producers or songwriters that have a lasting impact on their genre. BMI’s Presidents felt the New York rapper deserves the award. Vice President, Catherine Brewton describes the New York rapper as a pioneer in hip hop. She adds that he is an innovator as well as a legend as he continues to inspire young artists today.

Busta Rhymes is no stranger to winning a BMI award. He has won eight in the past. Some of the big names that have won the BMI Icon Award are Snoop Dogg, The Jacksons, James Brown, and Patti LaBelle. BMI is a performance rights business that has been in business for 80 years. It’s the biggest business in their respective industry and one of the biggest in the world. It’s a nonprofit organization that receives fees from companies that play music from BMI’s catalog. Broadcast Music, Inc. then distributes royalties to songwriters, publishers, and composers. BMI represents artists such as Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Blueface, and Patti LaBelle.

Trevor George Smith Jr., aka Busta Rhymes has had an incredible career. He first got his name from Public Enemy’s Chuck D, which he named after NFL player George “Buster” Rhymes. Busta Rhymes is no stranger to having his name up for an award. He has been nominated for 12 Grammys, although he has not come home with the trophy yet. He has spent time with Republic Records, Cash Money Records, Motown, Epic Records, and Interscope bringing his creativity to the label before starting his own Conglomerate label. All music publications have Busta Rhymes as a top 50 MC and he is often recognized as one of the best video artists. The 50-year-old rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actor has sold over five million records to date. Congratulations Busta, you deserve it!
