Charlamagne Tha God Received a High Honor From His Mother’s Alma Mater
Author, DJ, and Radio Personality Charlamagne Tha God posted a photo on his Instagram of him receiving an honorary doctorate from South Carolina State University. In his commencement speech, he spoke about the changes the world has faced in the past year. With this, he emphasized the need for black voices to speak up and be heard. This honorary degree follows the many contributions the outspoken host has made to SCSU, including starting a $250k scholarship fund for black women in 2019.
“Couldn’t ask for a greater Mother’s Day weekend….”
While Charlamagne Tha God did not go to college, both his mother and his wife attended SCSU. By getting this honor on Mother’s Day weekend, the author and radio personality could not given his mother and his wife a better gift.
“…you can call me Dr. Lenard, Dr. Charla, however you want to do it just know with this honorary doctorate you shall forever call me DOCTOR!!!!!!!”
Dr. Charla has made many contributions in the past few years. Most notably, he became a New York Times bestselling author for his book Black Privilege. Additionally, he was also inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame for his show The Breakfast Club. In the past year, he has announced the launch of The Black Effect Podcast Network, his podcast network that plans to bring more recognition to black culture.
Overall, his contributions to multiple communities and media forms are endless! Charlamagne Tha God has shown he is deserving of a doctorate title from an outstanding HBCU.
