Over the past couple of years, rapper, DaBaby, has definitely suffered through a number of struggles that would break a normal person. After the sudden passing of his father in 2018 and one year spent on probation following a shooting that left a 19 year old dead, the ‘Suge’ artist’s life seems to be taking another turn for the worse. On Tuesday, November 3rd, DaBaby’s older brother, Glenn Johnson, lost his life to a suicide attempt, forcing the top-charting rapper to rethink his self-care strategies.

Officers of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. They found Johnson, who had “sustained a gunshot”, and rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival in the early afternoon.

Glenn Johnson was afflicted with depression for years, and anyone who has been in similar circumstances knows that this is a serious illness that cannot just be wished away. Baby’s 2017 track ‘Intro‘, off of the Billion Dollar Baby project, mentions his brothers struggle when he raps, “My brother be thinkin’ that we don’t love him and let him struggle like we ain’t family, Like I won’t give up all I got to see you happy, n-gga.”

The morning after the tragic incident, DaBaby seemed to have woken up with a mission on his mind. After witnessing the effects of depression first hand and noticing some signs of it in himself, Baby is urging everyone in similar circumstances to get help.

“If you can’t get over depression GET HELP, you see a loved one struggling get them help, they refuse the help, MAKE em get treated anyway. You suffer from PTSD take that shit serious & get help! I’m bouta get a therapist my damn self!”
