Diddy has again got himself in the controversy. The artist made a controversial statement on modern R&B, and he’s finally defending himself.
Since his highly contentious IG live translation last week, Diddy has been under fire from all angles. During an IG live with Timbaland, Diddy plainly stated, “R&B is motherfucking dead as of right now.”
“The R&B I made my babies to? R&B gotta be judged to a certain thing — it’s the feeling, though, doggy…This shit is about feeling your vulnerability,” Diddy argued. While plenty co-signed his claims, many others have been speaking out in disagreement. Namely, vocalists like Arin Ray, Kenyon Dixon, and Tiffany Evans.
Perhaps the most prominent artist to speak out is Chris Brown. The “Poppin” singer went on his Instagram story to assertively fire back against the comment. “N*ggas saying R&B is dead …respectfully shut up,” he wrote.
Diddy Explains
Now, after all the pushback, Diddy is clarifying his stance. The “Last Night” artist hopped on Twitter Saturday (Aug 20), trying to make it clear that he didn’t mean to disrespect anyone with his opinion.
“It’s been 3 days of the debate… This is the clarity of the message… It’s not disrespect to anybody,” he typed. “This conversation was out of love and me purposely wanting to bring attention to R&B! It was something that I saw the effect of the Hip hop and R&B balance. That balance is honesty and realness when it comes together, melodies, vulnerability, and most importantly LOVE!!!”

“This message is that R&B game needs more love, vulnerability, support!!” He finished.
It looks like Diddy is changing his tune overall. He revealed that Tory Lanez is one of his favorite R&B artists during an Instagram live session with the “Say It” singer.
Do you think R&B is dead? Or is the new generation keeping it alive and well? The debate is still raging on.
Rnb not dead we just don’t have men crying on the tracks nomore….artist too busy tryna be city boys/city girls 🤷🏽♀️
it’s not dead but i want y’all to stop acting like the good shit is easy to find. mainstream RnB is trash and whether y’all like it or not, casual listeners don’t wanna go digging for better. https://t.co/RaeSdToiGf
RnB ain't dead its just a lot of the commercial shit don't hit like it used to. Same with hip hop. When I was growing up, commercial RnB was some of the best RnB ever. The talent was enormous. People sang in the mic from their core, and not with their head perfectly still.
When u lot say RnB is dead it just lets me know none of u have moved on from the 90s. RnB didn’t die. It just evolved. Same reason u don’t hear niggas on boom bap beats no more. And the sounds u want still exist, just go listen to them niggas then if it bothers u so much
