#FMSpotlight: IV4 – ‘Get Rich & Cry Trying’ (Listen)

IV4 proves she’s a singing sensation through & through. 

Her ability to convey emotion through vivid lyrics & a crystallized range especially shines in her EP, Get Rich & Cry Trying. The title takes a creative spin on 50 Cent’s album title, Get Rich & Die Trying. 

On Get Rich & Cry Trying, IV4 navigates through heartbreak & infatuation. From start to finish, she stands her ground, proving that vulnerability & confidence equate to emotional freedom. Once a person takes control of their narrative, no one else can add chapters to their life. The lyrics find IV4 putting a stop to toxic situationships & being open to love. The singer also shows us the power that comes with having a voice.

Sonically, Get Rich & Cry Trying delves into calm R&B beats, pop beats, & jazz beats. As a whole, the 8-track effort is an album that’ll get people through the highs & lows that come with being in love. Moreover, it prepares them to weather the storms of romance ahead.

Her favorite track is the seventh one called “Bloom.” The singer says that it spoke to her creativity.

“‘Bloom’ speaks to who I am as a new artist, a creative, & how I feel about dropping my first project,” IV4 continues. “‘Bloom’ is an ode to ‘Get Rich & Cry Trying.”

The message in “Bloom” finds IV4 pushing her love to be the best version of himself. She believes that this man can accomplish the goals he plans on pursuing. 

She sings lines like “You should be proud babe, we came from the ground babe.” Additionally, she expresses, “I know you can be something special, successful.”

The Warner Records artist also dropped a music video for “Can’t Find Love In L.A” when Get Rich & Cry Trying debuted. 

“Can’t Find Love In L.A” is an ode to a lover she adores. Over the dreamy pop instrumental, the singer is open about her feelings toward him. In a word, she’s head over heels and yearns for their intimate moments together. The love they share is the greatest of them all. 

No one else’s opinion needs to disrupt the flow of things.

 “I need to get closer to you/Nobodys around but us two/Your body is my body/Your hands are mines,” she sings. “Know you want to make love on the floor by candlelights/When I get closer to you/No one needs to know but us two.”

Get Rich & Cry Trying is IV4’s latest project since signing to Warner Records. Throughout 2021, she strategically dropped visionary singles from this new mixtape—each one demonstrating a new side to her sound. Previously released singles “Work 2 Hard” & the dreamy R&B explored on “Swimming,” featuring Trippie Redd. 

IV4 was discovered in 2018 after posting her first song, “Because of Me,” produced by Smash David & SkipOnDaBeat, on social media & earning tens of thousands of views.
