Kenyon Dixon is an R&B singer, songwriter, and vocalist that you should get familiar with—having already the accomplishment of writing songs for Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Tyrese. TGT, and more, under his belt. Additionally, he’s done back vocals for artists like Justin Timberlake, Usher, John Legend, and Nick Jonas. More recently, however, Kenyon Dixon was a part of Beyoncé’s newest film, Black is King.
As a solo artist, he’s been hitting airwaves, pushing out singles consecutively throughout the year. This time around, Kenyon Dixon teamed up with singer, songwriter Avery Wilson for his brand-new song, “What I Like.”
Kenyon Dixon’s “What I Like (feat. Avery Wilson)” is a lush, warm R&B offering that sees the two lovestruck over a seemingly flawless woman. Additionally, the beat is led by a beautiful piano number. Kenyon Dixon uses a velvety register in means of self-expression. Throughout his verse, he sings with compassion about his lady’s TLC and how self-assured she is. Calling her an angel in disguise, he adds, “We don’t ever argue, always on the same wave, ” and “I tell her I need her, she pulls up the same day.” Towards the 50-second mark, a drum loop intervenes, keeping the tempo lively. During the hook, his singing is akin to R&B artist, Eric Bellinger.
His feature, Avery Wilson, showcases a sweet, powerful, moving vocality and explains why he adores his soon-to-be wife. Not to mention, Avery Wilson throws in some exceptionally pleasing riffs and runs. He details how the two see eye-to-eye on many occurrences. “When I say ready, set she be on go,” he sings.
All-in-all “What I Like (feat. Avery Wilson)” is a modern love ballad that can be played in both intimate and non-intimate moments with your bae.
