J. Cole First Artist To Go Multi-Platinum This Year With “MIDDLE CHILD”
Salutations FM Trendsetters and FM Hip Hop Heads! Dreamville patriarch and Roc Nation artist J. Cole was already having a great year thus far. The NBA All Star Game was held in his home state of North Carolina in February. During the All Star Game he was involved in at least 2 high profile events, even honored for his basketball contributions to his high school, when NBA player Dennis Smith dunked over the emcee with his own high school jersey on. J .Cole would later attempt a dunk as well, but failed miserably. Consequently his attempt went viral as well. Nevertheless even that embarrassing situation did not stop the movement of his accomplishments. The once “forgotten-about” emcee released the banger, MIDDLE CHILD, that would span all over radio, memes on social media, and all musical internet outlets. Another interesting fact, is the song, according to song producer T-Minus, was only created in a day.
After being out for only 3 months, despite efforts by Offset, and conglomerate artists like Cardi B or Beyonce, the No Role Models visionary became the first artist of 2019 to achieve a multi-platinum song, especially with no feature. The RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) reported the single did one million units and more. This is monumental for an emcee, underrated and forgotten artist like J. Cole, whom is considered an underdog. For a year or two, like J. Cole mentions on his feature with trap artist 21 Savage (the controversial “A Lot“), it seems no one would even text or hit him back for features. A void where most artists of his humble and meek caliber find themselves stuck. However this just puts the icing on the cake. Let us hope this influences more songs to come. Congrats J. Cole!
