Freddie Gibbs Stumps Social Media With “Jeezy Is Like 2Pac To Me” Post

Saturday, Feb. 5, Freddie Gibbs’ fans were stumped by his single-line post, “Jeezy is like 2Pac to me.” Not only did the sentiment seem to appear out of thin air, but extremely cryptic. Given Jeezy’s and Gibbs’ history, many wondered if the artist was okay.

Good Times Between Gibbs and Jeezy

Things between Gibbs and Jeezy weren’t always rocky. Jeezy saw something in Gibbs and extended a hand because he wanted to give him a shot. According to a source, he signed to Jeezy’s record label, CTE, in 2011. Sometimes things dissolve, as did the working relationship between the two artists. In 2012 Gibbs left CTE World.

Gibbs Open’s Up

In 2012, Gibbs expressed why he departed from CTE. His articulated reasoning he left was due to business concerns. While his rationale sounded good, the lyrical jabs to follow for years told a different story. Things seemed more personal than he said. In 2014, when asked about his sentiments on Jeezy, he did not hide his disdain. He spoke like someone lit a fire under him,

“Honestly, I can give two f***s about Jeezy. I ain’t got nothing to prove to Jeezy. But, from a rap standpoint, I gotta say what’s going on.

No filter, no brakes!

Times Changes Things and People

Some time has passed since the 2014 interview. Unfortunately, Gibb hasn’t expressed a change in his sentiments. However, there’s proof that Rick Ross reached out with advice.

“Once again, you gotta appreciate when a brother reaches out to you and believes in your gift, brother.”

Inarguably, this is some sound advice. Assumedly, Gibbs acted on Ross’s advice.

Some Speculate on Gibbs Motivation

One could reason the artist had a change of heart. However, some think the post was a joke. One fan commented,

“Idk if this is a diss or a compliment, lol.”

No one knows, and perhaps that is a good thing. We are spectators, and spectators aren’t privy to a look behind-the-scenes.

While some questioned the validity of the comment, others questioned the comparison level. It’s not so much about speaking positively of Jezzy. One fan put it this way,

“Jeezy is great, but to compare him like Pac…!”

Interestingly, Gibb’s response leads us to believe His initial comment wasn’t a joke. Gibbs’ response to the stretch in comparison read like this.

“It’s a real debate.”

While it’s not clear If Gibbs has had a change of heart, he did something commendable. He took the time out to elevate a colleague rather than diss. This sounds like significant growth but transformation does not happen overnight. Perhaps this spark will ignite a lasting change. There is nothing like brothers within the hip-hop culture uplifting one another. We love it!
