Gabrielle Union and NBC said Tuesday that they have settled their differences in their dispute over her firing as a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” which she said was retaliation for her complaints that the show tolerated racism on the set.
Gabrielle Union believes she was fired from ‘America’s Got Talent’ because she asked the network to respond to an environment that tolerated racist jokes.
“We’ve reached an amicable resolution,” Union and the network said in a joint statement. “NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds are treated with respect.”
Union appeared in films such as Bring It On and Bad Boys II and can currently be seen in LA’s Finest, a TV spin-off from the Bad Boys franchise.
It was reported that Union believed she was fired because she asked NBC and the show’s producers to respond to an environment that tolerated racist jokes.
In an interview with Variety, Union said she had been “literally met with the very definition of a toxic work environment… carried out by the most powerful person on the production”.
Many fans have thanked Union for standing up for women of color and applauded her bravery.
Thank u! Cuz girlllllll 😐 Truth telling, wanting change & having MULTIPLE witnesses who bravely came forward to let EVERYONE know I didn't lie or exaggerate, really exposes those who enthusiastically will throw you under the bus, forgetting quickly who stepped up 4 THEIR truth. https://t.co/X1uooWTpmK
