Jay-Z & Damon Dash Reached A Settlement In Their NFT Lawsuit Case Over “Reasonable Doubt”

There may be some differences of opinion between Jay-Z and Damon Dash these days, but they are willing to work out a solution. Complex has obtained court documents obtained by Jay-Z lawyer Alex Spiro regarding the Roc-A-Fella founders’ settlement negotiations. Documents were revealed during a hearing held on Tuesday, Mar. 15, in Manhattan federal court.

In June 2021, Jay-Z sued Dame in light of the former Roc executive’s attempt to sell his ownership stake in “Reasonable Doubt” as an NFT without proper authorization. Damon Dash’s attempt to sell the NFT last year came to a halt when a district court judge went against it.

“[Both sides are] in the process of meeting and conferring to determine whether they can reach a settlement agreement that would resolve this case,” these documents read as Spiro described them at the hearing on Tuesday.

Both Jay-Z and Damon Dash Have Filed Legal Complaints

As a result, Damon Dash countersued Roc-A-Fella and Hov seeks $1 million in damages. Jay-Z claims Damon Dash was attempting to sell his one-third stake in Roc-A-Fella and not just the album alone. The Hollywood Reporter cites a lawsuit alleging that Jay-Z gave streaming rights for the album to S. Carter Enterprises LLC without Roc-A-Fella’s authorization.

“From my perspective, it feels like this was all done to devalue this asset,” Dame told DX in an interview. “I just don’t understand why. What’s odd is that they knew I was only trying to sell one-third, but they’re trying to say I tried to sell the whole thing. But we all know that that’s not the case, so why do they keep saying it? The question is, why is it such a big deal? Why is everyone so scared for me to sell my one-third?”

Complex reports via Spiro that an additional suit is coming on behalf of Jay-Z against his former partner. Damon Dash will not be able to sell any part of the album if there is no agreement.
