On Wednesday, February 10, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2021 list of nominees. Classic acts like Carole King, Mary J Blige, Tina Turner, JAY-Z, L.L. Cool J, Chaka Khan, Dionne Warwick, and the late Fela Kuti are all among those on the nominee list.
The year 2021 also marks the 25th anniversary of JAY-Z’s debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” making him eligible for his first-ever Rock & Roll Hall nomination. Rolling Stone reports that this is L.L. Cool J’s sixth time being nominated and the third time for Chaka Khan. If Carol King and Tina Turner are inducted, they’ll mark the second and third women ever to receive the honor twice. “This outstanding ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates,” said John Sykes, the chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a press release. He continues to say, “These Nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”
Here’s How To Cast Your Vote
Music fans can cast their votes for their favorite artists starting Wednesday, February 10 through April 30, 2021, on the Rock Hall website. Meanwhile, Ohio music fans can also vote in-person at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. The ceremony is set to be held this fall in Cleveland. For musicians to be eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they must have released their first studio recording at least 25 years before the nomination year. Last year’s ceremony was rescheduled as a virtual event to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. In 2020, fan-favorite hitmakers, including Whitney Houston, the Notorious B.I.G., and the Doobie Brothers, were inducted. Congratulations to all the nominees!
