Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has asked President Trump to commute the sentence of Kodak Black via Twitter.
Hey @realDonaldTrump @potus my friend @KodakBlack1k deserves to be commuted. The system punished him way to hard for a paperwork crime #freekodak

In the tweet Jackson refers to the misdeed of Kodak as a “paperwork crime” and asks for a commutation of his sentence. Kodak Black is currently serving 46 months in prison on a firearms possession charge. This sentence represents a drastic reduction from the original sentence of 10 years. Kodak Black is currently slated for release in November of 2022.
This latest plea from Jackson follows a failure to have Kodak Black’s sentence reduced last week. Federal prosecutors noted that the argument of his legal team was not strong enough to justify his release. U.S. Attorney Bruce O. Brown stated that “(Kodak Black) has not presented ‘extraordinary and compelling reasons’ supporting his request for release”.
Jackson’s request was praised on Twitter by Kodak Black’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen. Cohen highlighted that “Fairness is not limited to one case” and argued that a 46 month sentence is excessive for what was essentially a clerical error.
The great and I mean great @Lj_era8 future all of famer and good friend. Fairness is not limited to one case. 46 months in a max prison for checking the wrong box on a form? Thank you Lamar #freekodak https://t.co/eRTiaICVCq
