How does the story go? The one about the little boy from the hood. He grows up in an inner city with big dreams of becoming a rapper or an athlete. I always wondered could there ever be a different ending to the story? What if became a doctor or a lawyer?. Well, LeBron James is giving the children of Akron, Ohio the option to change the ending of their story.

The LeBron James Family Foundation in partnership with the University of Akron will fully fund the tuition of potentially 2,300 children. According to Akron Schools, The criteria for the scholarship is still being finalized. However, graduates of  the foundation’s “I Promise” education program and the Akron public school system who meet attendance requirements, grade requirements, and community service obligations will qualify as viable scholarship candidates.

“They’re going to have to earn it, but I’m excited to see what these kids can accomplish knowing that college is in their futures.”

There are currently 1,100 students in the I Promise program with an additional 1,200 who are expected to join within the next four years. These children will surely be guaranteed a promising future now that there are more options accessible to them.
