Logic’s 1-800-273-8255 demonstrates the power of music and its profound impact on peoples’ lives.
Alternative rock band the Fray released a single in 2006 entitled “How to Save A Life.” Findings from recent studies have found music is undoubtedly one of those ways.
Today headlines echo this sentiment as they read, Logic’s 1-800-273-8255 played a vital role in suicide prevention
“1-800-273-8255” Isn’t Merely A Song Title
Those digits open a communication link to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline where one can find genuine life-saving counsel. According to CNN, a new study suggests following the release of Logic’s single, the lifeline’s calls saw a 50% increase.
Indeed, that is amazing. Without a doubt, Logic is feeling extraordinarily humbled and blessed, as he had no idea the impact his track would have on adoring fans and first-time listeners alike.
What were Logic’s Intentions?
Logic admits he did intend to deliver a resounding message that would reach followers. In an earlier statement, he says.
“To know my music was actually affecting people’s lives is what inspired me to make the song…And the fact it did, blows my mind.”
Depression has No Respect of Person
Logic knows all too well the impact depression has on lives, as he has also waded through a dark period in life. As a source notes, the artist told CNN he experienced crippling anxiety and depression during a 2016 tour for his second album. He openly admits to subsequently taking time out to reframe and refocus on getting back to being himself.
Logic Demonstrates Experience is the Best Teacher
Logic’s approach is one of openness and honesty. For him, it’s only logical artists authentically represent who they are.
In his words,
“I’m not going to pretend to be somebody I’m not…I think honesty is everything…”
That’s what people connect with–finding those they idolize are cut from the same fabric and live similar existences.
For those who think this is all Smoke and Mirrors
Well, the impact of Logic’s single is no fluke. His 2017 MTV performance was not the only time his music reflected a significant impact. According to HotNewHipHop,
“The study also states a ‘5.5% reduction in suicides among 10-to-19-year olds the first 34 days after the song release and a widely promoted 2018 Grammy Award performance.'”
Suicide is a Beast!
So many lives are lost to suicide every year. According to the (Centers for Disease Control) CDC,
“In 2019, 12 million American adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.5 million planned a suicide attempt, and 1.4 million attempted suicides.”
Sadly these statics only reflect one calendar year.
Logic Understood The Assignment
Logic’s message is as profound as his lyrics in “1-800”,
“And when you stare at your reflection, finally knowing who it is … I know that you’ll thank God you did.”
For Logic had this to say from heart,
“The message is simple: Look forward. Yes, it sucks. It’s dust right now, 100%. But things get better. It gets so much better — I know it does because I’m talking from experience,”
So well done, Logic, for being a force of change in the world. By all means, keep doing what you’re doing!
