This Mass Appeal team-up with ShowTime and Nas was originally announced in May. Since then, they have slowly released what can be expected to commemorate hip hop’s 50 year mark. This entertainment company has a mission to represent the urban culture on a global scale. Fans are excited about what is to come.
Mass Appeal will release the EPs quarterly beginning in 2022, all containing original music.
The representations of hip hop
For the 50th anniversary, all projects will represent different aspects of Hip Hop. There will be regionally-themed projects and a DJ Premier-helmed EP billed as the “Early Days.”
Swizz Beatz will produce for the East Coast, and Mustard will take on the West Coast. Meanwhile, Mike WiLL Made-It has the South, and No I.D. will tackle the Midwest. As for the global EP, Mass Appeal has taken on reggaeton hitmaker Tainy for it.
Filling out the rest of the series, Hit-Boy will produce a lyricism showcase, Take A Daytrip will have an “alternative” EP, and The-Dream will take the R&B EP.
For the final Ep, fans get to choose the last producer. However, there is no announcement for when the voting begins.
Mass Appeal is releasing its selection of producers as part of its distribution deal with The Orchard, meaning portions of the proceeds will go to charitable organizations and the Universal Hip Hop Museum.
“Hip Hop is the soundtrack of everything we see and hear around the world,” Mass Appeal’s General Manager of Music, Jessica Rivera, said.
“We are excited to build the soundscape of Hip Hop 50th anniversary and deliver notable collaborations led by these amazing producers.”
