Nas Revamps 93' Freestyle w/t Freddie Gibbs and Cordae

A revamped version of Nas’ 1993 track “Life Is Like a Dice Game” dropped today, featuring Freddie Gibbs and Cordae.

Nas left the original “Life is Like a Dice Game” freestyle unfinished 30 years ago. Then Nas ended it by declaring, “On my freestyle tip, when I finish this sh*t, it’s sure to be a hit.”  Now Nas has revamped the 93’ freestyle, in collaboration with Spotify Singles.  At the suggestion of Spotify’s Carl Chery, the legendary Hit-Boy has remade the beat.

“True Nas fans are familiar with the ‘Life Is Like a Dice Game’ leak,” says Carl Chery. “I thought finishing the song would be a fresh spin on our Spotify Singles program. The original dates back to the ‘90s but the concept feels more relevant than ever today, which makes it the perfect time to put it out.”

The song now features a fresh verse from Nas and two new guest verses from Freddie Gibbs and Cordae, in addition to Nas’ original verse. Nas talked about how it came together during a press release disclosed at the same time the track launched. “Spotify pulled out a leak from the 90s that I did eons ago, and asked if I could resurrect it,” said Nas. “Carl Chery from Spotify suggested we connect with Freddie and Cordae to bring the song new life, and I loved it.”

The reissue of  “It Was Written” by Nas is set to release on the record’s 25th birthday

The track launched to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Nas’ follow-up to Illmatic, the criminally underrated It Was Written. Nas has now released a remastered version of that legendary record, which was originally released on July 2nd, 1996. The anniversary edition also includes two bonus tracks (“Silent Murder” and “Street Dreams (Bonus Verse).”
