Nicki Minaj wants to go to court against Tyrone Blackburn. In this case, she wants him to pay her legal fees and get harsher punishments.
Blackburn was an attorney to Jennifer Hough. She had started a sexual assault case against Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty.
Minaj had been a part of the case. She spent $30,000 in legal fees to defend herself. The case abruptly ended in January with no explanations.
Moreover, Minaj’s attorney, Judd Burstein, claims that the trial only took place to force Minaj to spend money on her legal fees. They are suing him for those fees. Burstein wrote this in a filing on Monday.
“Mr. Blackburn’s conduct in this case has been disgraceful. He should be severely punished for it … so that, hopefully, other lawyers will understand that they have an obligation to their clients, the court, opposing counsel, and the legal profession itself not to pursue bad faith, frivolous, and indeed extortionate litigation in such a reprehensible manner.”
On the next day, Blackburn sent a statement to Billboard. He is strongly refuting the accusations. He is also saying that the case is baseless.
Blackburn’s list of crimes for punishment
In Burstein’s filing, he lists a series of false claims Blackburn made against Minaj and himself to the court. The list includes: claiming Minaj is part of a gang and that Burstein has a “sick obsession” with the wife of one of Hough’s former attorneys.
“No lawyer should be permitted to walk away unscathed after making an allegation of this kind – especially because Mr. Blackburn knew that it would find its way into the public domain due to the media and other attention paid to the docket in this case.”
Overall, Burstein wants Blackburn to reimburse Minaj’s legal fees. Also, he wants Blackburn taken to the court’s disciplinary committee for harsher punishments.
