The Notorious B.I.G.’s second album, Life After Death, released days after he died, turns 25 on Friday (Mar. 25). Spotify carved Biggie’s lyrics onto stone tablets to honor his legacy this year.
Biggie’s 3-foot-tall stone tablets are titled “B.I.G. Life Lessons.” The tablets contain 10 of his most well-known and powerful rhymes. There are, for instance, “Speak my piece, keep my peace” (“Hypnotize”), “Never let ’em know your next move, move in silence” (“Ten Crack Commandments”), and “Stay far from timid, only make moves when your heart is in it.” (“Sky’s the Limit”).
“For the 25th anniversary of, arguably, one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time (and one of the greatest albums in general), we decided to solidify Biggie’s legacy by literally carving it into stone,” Carl Chery, Spotify’s Head of Urban Music, tells HipHopDX. “Loosely based off of ‘Ten Crack Commandments,’ we hired a stonemason to engrave Biggie’s Life Lessons into the stone, using his ever-relevant lyrics.”

Spotify uploaded a behind-the-scenes video of the making of “B.I.G Life Lessons” for fans to enjoy. This video shows how the stone tablets are carved by hand and how the lyrics are engraved. These tablets hold Christopher Wallace’s words in a physical form.
In addition, Life After Death’s 25th birthday honors includes Spotify adding Biggie’s hit single “Hypnotize” to Rap Caviar’s playlist. Also, fans get a chance to get a limited edition Life After Death album via their Fans First program.
“Surfacing catalogue albums to our listeners is a big priority for Spotify — we want to make sure the next generation of listeners discover classic albums and artists, as well as remind pre-existing fans of their favorites,” Chery explains.
Also, this month marks the 25th year of Notorious B.I.G.’s tragic death in Los Angeles at age 24. Despite his death, his music is still popular today. Furthermore, Spotify says that the late Brooklyn rapper gets over two million first-time listeners a month. Songs such as “Hypnotize,” “Big Poppa,” and “Juicy” are among the most popular.
