Ibby, a promising rapper with an amazing come-up, is making news today for much more than his artistry. Today Ibby’s name now permeates the headlines because of his unorthodox stand. For what did Ibby stand? He stood for his faith.

It’s Tough Out There

Showbizness is a tough business. The demands and expectations can be a tremendous weight on the shoulders of artists. While some have no qualms about navigating the rocky waters for others, the impositions of being in the limelight create a crisis of conscience.

Inevitably, the intersection of personal belief and industry standards leads to major decision-making points of which Ibby can speak well. And such forms the basis of his decision to put his faith first.

Who is Ibby?

Ibrahim Mohsen is a 22-year-old rap artist who has made a big splash in the international music scene. B.B.C. defines him as “The next big thing on the British Asian rap scene.” Moshen, who adopted the stage name Ibby, is known for his talents and work ethic. He is a man with a hustler spirit that is as big as, if not equal to, his artistry. Ibby spent years building his presence.

As B.B.C. notes, the artist spent more than half a decade working in “grime music,” amassing a huge fandom that would continue to propel him. Ibby was just beginning to reap the bountiful fruits of his labors when he stepped away from the mic.

But why?

Ibby and The Road to Decision

For Ibby, his accomplishments did not come with deep fulfillment. As Ibby relayed in a heartfelt interview with the B.B.C. Asian Network,

“There was a point I was earning £4,000 monthly, but I quickly realized the money I was earning had no blessings.”

In fact, the performer contends that he even struggled with gifting the money he earned to his mother. For many, this is confusing. It’s hard to understand how one can readily give away all they have worked for and earned.

According to Ibby, this decision was a necessary one. It was a matter of his faith. And he could no longer balance the two. His career was turning him away from his faith. And as Ibby notes, “it was not merely the making of the music that made him feel uneasy, but also the lifestyle that came with it.”

While some may not understand, the vast majority of those who know, they know, and no further explanation is necessary.

What is next?

While Ibby has given up the spotlight as a rap artist, he has not totally turned from his creative ambitions. He is reportedly turning his sights towards Nasheeds. Nasheeds are termed a popular form of inspired Islamic poetry and songs. And Ibby doesn’t plan to merely direct his creativity in that direction, but he intends to become the “Greatest of All Time” in his newly chosen form of creative expressionism. He notes,

“The next thing is to take the knowledge from the music industry and bring it to this new thing. I want to be known as the guy for that scene – the G.O.A.T. of the game of Nasheeds.”

Pulling in All the Pieces

It’s always challenging to make decisions that change the trajectory of your life. But standing firm in one’s beliefs and acting in accordance is to walk with integrity. No one can knock that. Many are gifted in this world, but few are principled.

It is amazing to see someone with the guts and character Ibby shows. He is a living inspiration and a blueprint for excellence of character. So to him, we offer a salute and wish him all the best in his upcoming endeavors.
