Ray J is in divorce court once again. The actor and rapper has been in and out of divorce proceedings with his wife, Princess Love. The couple have recently developed a history of calling, then calling off, their divorce. The two have actually spent more time over the past year preparing to separate than not.
Ray J’s Divorce History
The couple married in 2016 and had four wonderful years of marriage by all accounts. They had a daughter, Melody Love, in 2018, and a son, Epik Ray, in 2020. It was during Love’s second pregnancy that signs of stress began to show. Princess Love filed for divorce from Ray in May of 2020. According to her, Ray had been irresponsible and partying too hard. This culminated in an explosive argument between the two at Vegas when Love claimed that Ray left her “stranded,” which he denied. Two months after the initial filing, Love withdrew the paperwork and fans breathed a sigh of relief.
Then, seemingly out of the blue, Ray J himself filed for divorce September of 2020, just two months after the couple’s “reconciliation.” Although his exact motivations for doing so remain unclear, the rapper has stated via multiple forms of media that he simply wants Love to be as happy as possible, even if that means life without him. As odd and cryptic as that message may be, 2020 was a rough year for many families as inter-familial relationships radically shifted. Love seems to resent that she has to remain home with the children while Ray “goes out,” but Ray contests that he is spending days at a time in an office working. Regardless, after months of turmoil this second divorce was once again rescinded in May of 2021.
Now, while in the hospital suffering from pneumonia, Ray J is once again pushing for a divorce. No motivation has been given yet for this round of paperwork. Some speculate that Ray’s brush with mortality has him questioning the trajectory of his life, while others wonder if the actor is currently of sound mind.
Love and Publicity
The two stars have been exceptionally public with their divorce proceedings in the past. It has almost become a brand for the couple at this point; with Princess Love’s Twitter flooded with posts about “rebuilding their marriage.” One of the more prolific moves from the couple was to air on the reality TV series, VH1CouplesRetreat:
Which doesn’t appear to have resolved all that much, and possibly added to their resentment and drama. It also probably doesn’t help that Love has had her OnlyFans as her pinned Tweet since their second divorce filing….
Whatever the couple ultimately decide to do, hopefully they end up in a more stable, functional arrangement. As Ray himself points out, the most important thing is for them to provide a stable legacy for their children.
