Roddy Ricch Shouts Out NYPD On Stage After Arrest

Roddy Ricch made his feelings on the NYPD clear while performing at Hot 97’s Summer Jam on Sunday. The Compton rapper led the audience in a “F**k NYPD” chant just 24 hours after being detained on gun charges.

On Saturday, Roddy Ricch was heading to the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in Queens to prepare for his performance. After being stopped at a police checkpoint, he had his car searched. The NYPD discovered nine rounds of ammo and a large capacity magazine. Roddy Ricch was arrested along with two others and charged with four counts of criminal possession of a weapon by the NYPD.

One of Roddy’s associates, Michael Figueroa, allegedly pulled a gun out of his waistband and hid it beneath the mat. He was then arraigned in criminal court on Sunday.

The arrest led to Roddy’s set being canceled, with the ‘Die Young’ artist listed third on the bill Saturday out of 20 performers. However, his case was never docketed and according to a clerk at the Queens Criminal Court, the charges were dropped.

Halsey was the act that drew top billing on Saturday, along with Flume and Tove Lo. Kid Cudi’s performance kickstarted the Governor’s Ball on Friday.

The success of Roddy Ricch

Roddy Ricch has enjoyed much success in the last few years. He achieved mainstream breakthrough with the release of his single “Die Young” in 2018, which has garnered 130 million views on YouTube. In December of 2019, he dropped his first studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial. The project went on to win Album of The Year at the 2020 BET Awards, as well as Favorite Album at the AMAs. The album also contained Roddy’s best charting song to date, “The Box.”

Roddy Ricch would follow up this success in December 2021 with his sophomore album, LIVE LIFE FAST. He then performed on Saturday Night Live in May with Post Malone, after dropping out four months prior due to exposure to COVID.
