Red Bull 1520 Red Bull Spiral Drops Another One

A month ago, Red Bull kicked off the newest hip-hop offering on its Red Bull 1520 platform, a space dedicated to lovers of hip-hop. In the first episode, Coast Contra broke it down on Red Bull Spiral. This week Red Bull Spiral is back with new and exciting artists, KenTheMan, Baby Tate, and Kalan.FrFr. It’s a fight to the finish as the performers come fully prepared to demonstrate what they are working with.

 Free Style

Red Bull Spiral is the latest outlet for hip-hop heads’ listening pleasure. Artists are flown out to Red Bull’s LA Studio and given the opportunity to show their ability to deliver rapid-fire freestyle. And there is no let-up and no breaks. It is just ready, action, go. And this time, Ken the Man, Baby Tate, and Kalen.FrFr is center stage.

Red Bull Spiral Performer #1: KenTheMan

KenTheMan is a female emcee from Texas, credited as an artist who broke out in 2020.  As Preview notes,

“The release from her debut EP “4 da 304’s” upped her profile in a big way, soaring past 10 million streams on Spotify. “

KenTheMan is also known for her and Two Chainz collaborative work, “Rose Gold Stripper Pole.”

And just over a month ago, the up-and-comer earned quite an honor. She was chosen as one of nine emerging performers for the First on SoundCloud 2022 class. Positioning herself as one to watch, she comes to deliver a little something for the people on the most recent episode of Red Bull Spiral.

Red Bull Spiral Performer #2: Baby Tate

Baby Tate, who also comes in as one of the freestyle contenders on Red Bull Spiral, is another rising Female Emcee. Lyricism runs like blood through Baby Tate’s veins, as Tate is the offspring of Dionne Farris, a Grammy-nominated songwriter. However, it’s not just raw talent that undergirds Tate’s ambition. The Georgia native has taken the time to fine-tune her abilities. As Billboard notes, even in her earlier years,

“She explored classical music, experimented with sound independently, and sharpened her songwriting and production skills.”

Since those earlier years, her craft has continued to blossom. In 2021 Tate signed with a major record label. And one of her tremendous boasts is, as Billboard continues , her collaborative work with J. Cole on Dreamville’s “Revenge of the Dreamers III. “For those unfamiliar, tune in to see Baby Tate step up to the mic giving fans a taste of her talent.

Red Bull Spiral Performer #3 Kalen.FfFr

Kalan brings his skill straight from California, his native soil. Like his compadres on the Red Bull stage Kalen, too, has been nurturing his gift for years, beginning earnestly in his teenage years. Kalen continued to pour into that passion throughout high school and college. In 2016, after graduating, Kalen released “Bandz” and “21”.

But it wasn’t until 2021 that he began solidifying his presence with the release of the project “Twofr 2.” According to AllMusic, Roc Nation picked him up as an artist on its label that same year. 2021 was a massive year for Kalan as he also launched his breakout tour. Now Kalen is showing listeners exactly how he unleashes his raw inner beast on the Red Bull Spiral platform.

In Closing

The newest episode of Red Bull Spiral dropped on April 5th. And it’s a sweet drop that fans of freestyle want to be sure to check out, Most amazingly, it only takes four minutes to catch up on the non-stop flow.

Female Hip-Hop Rappers Such As Coi Leray, BIA, and Missy Elliot Release Lit Tracks

Female hip-hop rappers are giving everyone straight fire lately.

The collabs are hot, the beats are hotter, and the bars catch fire in every speaker you hear.

Hip-hop girlies Coi LerayBIABaby TateSaweetieFlo MilliLola BrookeLattoYung Miami, and Missy Elliot are the gifts that keep on giving.

Each track had a different vibe and interesting collaboration, but it worked elegantly.

Coi Leray’s “On Player (Remix)” And “Nonsense (Remix)”

Starting with Coi Leray, she dropped two remixes in the past 48 hours, with one of hip-hop’s finest Busta Rhymes and the other with popstar Sabrina Carpenter.

Two completely different artists, but Coi is such a ‘trendsetter’ and popstar that she can pull off the legendary “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” backtrack under her song “Players.”

However, “Nonsense (Remix)” with Sabrina Carpenter was an exciting breath of fresh air that was still Coi with a cute pop twist.

I tip my hat to the Boston native.

BIA And Timbaland’s “I’M THAT B**TCH”

Then we get into BIA

Bianca Miquela Landrau always delivers. She took on the daring beat of Missy Elliot and Timbaland’s “She’s a B**ch” for her version “I’M THAT B**TCH.”

She really got a co-sign when Missy Elliot congratulated her on the legend’s Instagram story.

Plus, Timbaland helped her make the track. I think that is the biggest co-sign you could get.

It’s a riveting take on the original song, meeting the present sample with an almost drill beat underneath BIA‘s lyrics.

Baby Tate And Saweetie’s “Hey Mickey!”

Next, Baby Tate and Saweetie‘s “Hey Mickey!” gives us the cute baddie vibe they both exude.

A pop song that turned into a fused pop and hip-hop version.

The Atlanta native always has fun with any of her releases, so it was only right that she paired with Saweetie.

The California native born as Diamonté changed her flow up a little with Tate.

It was a nice little shock and made me proud to hear the ‘Icy Girl’ give us something different.

Flo Milli’s “Bed Time (Remix)” With Monaleo And Gloss Up

Furthermore, Flo Milli teamed up with newer mainstream female rappers Monaleo and Gloss Up.

Three of them remixed Flo’s single off her latest album, “Bed Time.”

The lyrics were givin’ ‘I’m going to have my girls’ backs whenever and wherever.’

Monaleo and Gloss Up’s voices and lyrics complement Flo Milli’s cutesy voice pretty well.

Lola Brooke’s “Don’t Play With It” With Latto and Yung Miami

In addition, Lola Brooke’s “Don’t Play With It” is TikTok viral. The New York rapper was the bombshell the industry needed.

So, of course, Latto and Yung Miami had to hop on the train. These two are in the group of some of the hottest female rappers.

It is a great look for Lola Brooke.

Latto and Yung Miami sound like they had fun on this track. Caresha even trolls her fans about Diddy in her verse.

FLO With Missy Elliot’s Fly Girl

Finally, we have Hip-Hop royalty who is the legendary Missy Elliot. FLO is a new girl group from the UK that probably has the potential to be the next Destiny’s Child.

It was smart for them to get Missy on “Fly Girl” because the chorus comes from the Virginia native’s hit “Work It.”

Hearing Missy Elliot rapping again slapped a smile on my face. No one has a flow like her, and her voice just takes me back to the early 2000s.

The females continue to take the industry by storm, and I hope they keep us all on the edge of our seats.

Baby Tate Responds to Hitmaka Tweets With a Diss

ATL’s Baby Tate clearly isn’t happy with Hitmaka’s recent comments on female rappers.

Controversial Chicago producer Hitmaka, formerly known as Yung Berg, has been the center of drama following his tweets on the state of female rap this weekend. Plenty have stepped in to give their 2 cents, but none have caught quite as much attention as Baby Tates diss track.

What Started the Storm

“Can’t wait to work with a pretty female rapper that’s strictly about bars to even the playing field.” The 37-year-old tweeted. “P—— rap was cool when it had shock value and was rare,”

He continued withil, “Now it’s like every girl taking it there. It’s [some] who aren’t but they need a hit producer [for] impact.”

Of course, this drew immediate criticism from all corners of social media. Many opposers pointed out how hard it is for female artists to break due to the harsh beauty standards enforced in the tweet. Others took it a step further and spoke up about the abundance of producers meeting with women under false pretenses, wanting to make more than just music.

“i always see men in the industry preach they want it to all be about business then bring their d—- to the table when you get around them.” Singer/songwriter Essence responded. “I’ve been a artist for over 10 years and have yet to meet a record exec prod an who was really about business.”

https://twitter.com/leetheheathen/status/1604889426022125569?s=46&t=TJKVrtdDu3JUAazV4Ung7Q

Other Twitter users pointed out names like Flo Milli and Noname to disprove Hitmaka’s claims. With the massive amount of traction, female rap has gained in just a few years, the ‘Look What You Made Me’ artist got a huge wave of backlash from artists and fans alike. But it didn’t stop there.

Baby Tate hopped on TikTok to drop ‘Pu$$y Rapper’ a diss record directed at Hitmaka. In the song she mocks the producer, rapping “Lil wack n——. How dare you?! Maka hit for yourself. Ain’t been hot since Mim’s ‘Hot’ – Love & Hip Hop ain’t help.”

In addition to this, baby Tate takes the chance to point out Hitmaka’s position in the industry, and his apparent hypocrisy. “N—— just said the female bars so wack. Ain’t you writing ’em? Wonder why these hoes’ heads be so gassed up. Boy, ain’t you hyping ’em?” She says.

Showing Support

Following the diss, the young artist then made a tweet to clarify why she dropped. “As I said it’s no beef! The call was for a ‘pretty female rapper strictly about bars’ and instead of being a dick rider and a pick-me, I decided to bar Mr. Hitmaka up.” She typed. There are plenty of GORGEOUS rappers with a plethora of topics & a slew of bars. U just have to open [your] eyes.”

Baby Tate wasn’t the only one put off by Hitmaka’s comments. Outspoken as ever, Asian Doll tweeted out a response to the Chicago producer. “I feel like why do n##### always [worry about] what female rappers rap about?” She asked. “N——- been rapping bout the same thing since rap was invented,”

She finished, “Ladies rap for the ladies not for you n—— and we running s—- [right now] so let us be US even [though] I don’t only rap about my p—— still [shut the f—- up].”

The debate of sexual content within female rap has been raging for quite some time. You may remember back in 2020 when ‘WAP’ by Cardi b and Megan Thee Stallion raised the eyebrows of rappers, journalists, and even politicians.

Baby Tate Shares The Experience Of Finding Confidence In Rap

Baby Tate stopped by for an interview. She talked about the role her deceased cousin Taylor played in developing her confidence as an artist.

“Yeah, my cousin, she used to always push me to sing,” Tate said. “One thing that she used to tell me was if you don’t use your gift, you’re going to lose it, and I used to be so annoyed because this is when we were in Jersey.”

Tate continued, “but yeah, she definitely was very instrumental in my confidence in showing my gifts and talents. I will forever keep her memory alive by continuing to do what she saw that I could do as a little baby.”

How Did “Baby Tate” Get Her Name?

Additionally, Tate discussed how she came up with the name Baby Tate.

“I started going by Young Baby Tate in 2015 or so because it was my Instagram name for the longest, she said. “My stage name at first was Tate, which is my given name, and people just kept saying, ‘Coming to the stage, Young Baby Tate.'”

Tate recently released the deluxe version of her 2020 EP “After The Rain.” This EP features appearances from Flo Milli and 6lack. Moreover, she recently announced that she would release a new EP in the spring called “Mani Pedi.”

“This year, I’m manifesting the most successful project I’ve ever dropped in life,” she said. “I’m so excited for “Mani Pedi” to drop this Spring.”

Brief History

Babies Tate (formerly Yung Baby Tate) belongs to the new generation of “Rap Girls” whose voice cannot be ignored in 2022. Besides being able to spit a bar or two, the rapper is capable of holding a note as well. In addition to Baby Tate’s famous song “I Am,” her body-positive, women-empowering singles easily qualify her as a 2022-rising-star artist.

Originally from Decatur, Georgia, Baby Tate is a singer, songwriter, and record producer. At 19, she released her first mixtape, “ROYGBIV” (2015). In 2018, Baby Tate also released “Boys,” followed by a follow-up in 2019 entitled “Girls.” Following the release of her debut EP, “After The Rain,” in 2020, she immediately made her presence felt. She then signed with Warner Records in 2021 and released her single “Pedi.”

Music is not new to Baby Tate, as she is the daughter of soul musician Dionne Farris. Tate is influenced by a multitude of individuals, including her mother. She uses her artistry, persona, and voice to put her in the right places, such as landing her first appearance on the 10th season of Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta. The artist used 2021 to extend her fanbase and release new content. She finished the year by releasing her new single, “Hot One.”

Yung Baby Tate’s Major Announcements: New Name, New Label, New Song

Yung Baby Tate has taken to Instagram to make a major announcement. The Georgia native announced that she’s signed a deal with Warner Records and will be dropping her new single “Pedi” on the 29th of October.

Yung Baby Tate, born Tate Sequoya Farris, was born on the 13th of May in 1996 to Dionne Farris and David Ryan Harris. Her parents have musical backgrounds, with the mother being a soul singer and the father a producer. This later rubbed off on Tate, who began playing the piano at an early age. By 13, Tate was producing her own beats.

Baby Tate Formerly Yung Baby Tate

The “I Am” rapper shared that she’d changed her name from Yung Baby Tate to “Baby Tate.” Tate isn’t the only artist who’s reinvented themselves. Fellow Georgia native, Latto also announced a name change early this year after facing backlash due to the problematic origin of the previous name. The rapper went by the name Mulatto, an offensive term and slur that describes mixed-race children of Black and European origin.
