Latto’s ‘Big Energy’ Reaches No. 1 On Pop Radio

Latto has reached an important milestone with her song ‘Big Energy’. The track off of 777 reached the pole position on the Pop radio chart this week. This makes Latto the first female artist in 12 years to reach the top of the chart.

‘Big Energy’ also reached the top of the Rhythmic and Urban radio charts. Latto joins artists such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey who also had #1 hits on all three charts.

The song has also been certified platinum by the RIAA while reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Latto has also released a remix of ‘Big Energy’ featuring Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled.

Latto’s steady rise to stardom

The Atlanta rapper’s star has steadily risen over the past two years. After releasing “The Biggest”, the first track since her name change, she dropped ‘Big Energy’ in September 2021. The track immediately took off, due in large part to its success on the radio. In November, Latto made her late-night debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers with a performance of the song.

Latto also received nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the 2021 BET Awards. She also had performances at the BET Hip Hop Awards as well as the 2021 VMAs. In addition, she earned a VMA nomination for ‘Sex Lies’.

Her appearance on Chris Brown’s “Go Crazy” remix earned Latto nominations for two Soul Train Awards, as well as a 2022 NAACP Image Award. She was also featured in the soundtrack for Halle Berry’s Bruised with the song ‘The F**k.’

Latto then released her sophomore studio album 777 on March 25th of this year. Along with ‘Big Energy’, the project contains features from 21 Savage, Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne, Lil Durk, Nardo Wick and Kodak Black.

Latto Shares How She & Mariah Carey Formulated ‘Big Energy’ Remix

Latto released the remix for “Big Energy” featuring Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled. The original “Big Energy” is one of Latto’s highest-charting songs, which pays homage to Mariah Carey’s 1995 hit song, “Fantasy.” Infamous for her vocal range, Mariah opens the song with her legendary whistle notes as DJ Khaled builds up the excitement by shouting out popular cities.

How Did The Latto & Mariah Remix Happen?

On Twitter, fans question how “Big Energy” remix came about. In response, Latto shared that the idea struck her in November 2021, two months after the song’s release. Despite being high on the charts, she was not confident Mariah Carey would collaborate on the music. However, the Atlanta rapper decides to persist.

“I originally thought Mariah for the remix back in like November when it first started going up, but didn’t think I could get her realistically,” she wrote. “Fast fwd I said fuck it and reached out. She was down.”

Listener Reaction

Mariah sings the original chorus to “Fantasy” on the chorus, then harmonizes as Big Latto raps, “You gone have to come and see this. Pretty like New New, sweet like Peaches. I’m gone be ya fantasy. You ain’t gone believe this – Hold up, got Mimi on the remix.”

Ultimately, “Big Energy” reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts starting the year off. Therefore, the remix is right on time, and fans on Twitter love it. However, she has only released a clean version of the song, and listeners are awaiting the explicit version. A fan on Twitter addresses the matter stating, “looove the song 100% will you be releasing an explicit version of the song?” Drianna asks. “Cause I was singing it adding in the curse words I looove the remix because of how you guys mashed up Fantasy with Big Energy it flowed reaal good!!”

The Atlanta rapper dropped her sophomore album, “777” on Friday March 25. It features rappers such as Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, and the album is currently streaming on all platforms.
