Lil Wayne was a contributing voice when Hurricane Katrina occurred, thrashing the gulf coast. Many people died and lost their homes in the city of New Orleans. Lil Wayne became a prominent hip-hop force in 2005 when he dropped his Dedication series with DJ Drama.
The songs Lil Wayne recorded between 2005 and 2009 had everyone perking their ears up and listening for the rapper. That sort of influence should not go unnoticed. He rapped with metaphors and told analogies about life we all could relate to all while boasting vivid imagery of the harsh life in the streets and homes of New Orleans, Louisiana. A true Socrates at heart.

Lil Wayne arguably has the best mixtape series to ever bless music. This was before streaming came into play, which wasn’t that long ago, and was an era that held rap together. Though we enjoyed classic albums during that time, artists could not express themselves how they needed to through their respective record labels. So, a lot of artists went rogue and released free mixtapes to engage with their fans.
Let’s face it–Wayne was the face DatPiff and HNHH. Lil Wayne is one of the innovators of hip-hop, a true game-changer. Any moment you heard a song and then it’s covered by Lil Wayne? Well, that isn’t the original artist’s song anymore–it’s Wayne’s. It was difficult during that time knowing which was the original track, as Wayne outperformed artists on their own songs.
Once Wayne went to jail in 09’, Drake debuted and hold the Young Money crown and has pretty much held it ever since. Drake openly expresses how Lil Wayne has been the root of his upbringing since being introduced into the game back in 2008. Happy Birthday to Dewayne Carter, one of the biggest influencers for the overall sound in today’s hip-hop culture.
