Impact On The Rap Game; Nicki Minaj Scribbled Out Cardi B And Megan Thee Stallion In Screenshot

On Tuesday afternoon, rapper Nicki Minaj gave thanks for a HotNewHipHop article about her. The piece is titled Why Nicki Minaj Is One of the Greatest of All Time. Joshua Robinson wrote an Op-Ed discussing Nicki’s rise within the music industry and the huge impact she has on rap. Moreover, this is even more true when she is out of the spotlight.

Nicki’s Impact on Hip-Hop

“Yet, what’s most astonishing and powerful about Nicki’s impact on Hip-Hop is her presence and, sometimes, the lack thereof,” Robinson writes. “Whether she’s going on an unexpected freestyle or guest-feature run, giving a rare interview, or speaking her mind in a wild Twitter rant, Nicki Minaj’s presence — be it aural, digital, or visual — is absolutely enthralling, and when she’s on hiatus, you can tell. Despite the welcomed contributions of women like Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion City Girls, and Doja Cat over the past few years, female rap still feels incomplete without Nicki Minaj’s presence and output, and that alone illustrates how important she is to Hip-Hop, as a genre, and as a culture.”

Nicki Minaj posted this passage along with a praying hands emoji and a few eyebrow-raising edits to social media. According to the screenshot posted on her Twitter, her fellow female artists’ names have been scribbled without reason.

Fans Reactions

In addition, this move instantly divided fans. However, some saw it as amusing, while others viewed it as pointless and unneeded. Furthermore, the Nicki vs. Cardi beef has been around for some time. However, her claimed issues with the other acts draw less attention. Therefore, this is either because the feud ended fast or because one of the parties wouldn’t admit anything had happened.

In conclusion, neither Cardi, Megan, City Girls, nor Doja Cat reacted to Nicki’s post. Likewise, their own fan bases have plenty to say about it. Check out some of the reactions below.

Do you agree with Nicki Minaj’s decision to remove her fellow female artists from the screenshot?

Omeretta The Great Explains Her 2018 Twitter Beef With City Girls Rapper JT

Atlanta rapper, Omeretta The Great, went into detail about her beef with fellow female rapper, City Girls‘ JT, via Twitter in 2018.

Omeretta Explains the Social Media Exchange

In an interview on the “It’s Tricky With Raquel Harper” podcast, Harper asked the female emcee what transpired between her and JT back then.

“Basically, it was like 2018, and she was on Twitter saying something. I felt like [JT] was talking about me,” she told the media personality. “I felt like she was talking about me because she was signed to [Quality Control], and I felt like they used to be talkin’ junk about me, so I just replied to her and was like, ‘Direct yo sh*t.’ And she was like, ‘B*tch, wasn’t nobody talkin’ ’bout you,’ so I was like, ‘B***h, who you talkin’ ’bout?’ And we got to arguing.”

At the time, Omeretta thought the Florida native wrote a subliminal tweet about her on May 17, 2018.

“Your favorite rapper can’t make a song. She got barz thou,” JT wrote.

As a result, Omeretta responded to her, and the two went back and forth on the platform.

“Y’all out of town bitches is throwed the f**k off. B***h, I’m from Atlanta. THIS IS MY CITY. If you come here b***h, u gotta RESPECT ME or get THE F**K ON w**k a*s no rapping a*s h**s.”

However, it didn’t end there as they sparred via numerous tweets thereafter.

“Now I know, for sure, I’m doing something right when h**s go to making up beef. B***h sitcho a*s down, forreal. I never said s**t bout you. Don’t f****ng play with me!!!!!!”

During her interview, Omeretta was also asked if they had made amends since the social media spar, and she said it hadn’t happened yet.

The Atlanta Rapper Shoots Into Stardom

The 25-year-old musician rose to fame in 2019 after her “Megatron” challenge video, named after Nicki Minaj’s hit song, went viral. Minaj even shared the video on Instagram.

Most recently, she was cast for season 10 of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta but revealed to Raquel that she quit the show. She appeared for that one season which debuted on Jul. 5, 2021, and ended on Sep. 27, 2021.

Omeretta said she was misled by producers of the show, who, she claimed, were more concerned with “love” than “hip-hop.”

Lately, she has been busy promoting the videos for her latest singles, “Sorry For The Wait” and “Sorry Not Sorry.”

Quavo: Migos Are “Most Definitely” Working on Solo Projects

Everybody has to do their own thing, right? For Quavious Keyate Marshall (Quavo) of rap-trio Migos, he certainly understands that idea. Sure, Migos makes hits and globe-trots with style, but going one’s own way is important. So, why not release a banger with City Girls’ Yung Miami?

Quavo and Miami’s brand new “Strub Tha Ground” debuted on October 21 and is already making major waves. A debauched twerker-anthem that recreates the legendary ‘Freaknik’, it’s definitely worth the listen.

After dropping his latest single last Thursday, Quavo has announced that the group members of Migos are off to work on solo projects.

“We most definitely coming out with all our solo projects,” Quavo told Complex. Quavo would go to say later in the interview that,

“I feel like us together, we do a lot. We have done a lot. I feel like we individually haven’t…So I think this is the time to really show y’all where we came from individually. Y’all appreciate the group more right now.”

Quavo’s return to the solo life

That’s all fair and well and good. It’s happened before. With the quick success of 2017’s Culture, Migos found themselves up high. Following this, in 2018 and 2019, Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff all released their debut solo projects. Quavo’s 2018 Quavo Huncho produced such hits as “Lamb Talk” and “Workin Me”. “Workin” went Platinum with over one million units sold, and found itself at the No. 18 spot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Huncho would later be certified Gold, selling over 500,000 units.  Perhaps the good-times wave of Culture III will bring similar results for Quavo.

In the meantime, however, Quavo is giving nothing away. In the same Complex interview he talks about “Strub Tha Ground”, saying that he doesn’t “necessarily want to call it a hit single because we’re just having fun”.  He goes to allude to more songs on the way, “every week, every month. Get that flow going.”

Summer Walker’s “Ex For A Reason” Gets Mixed Reactions

The crowd is torn. Summer Walker’s new single “Ex For A Reason,” featuring JT of City Girls fame, has met with mixed reactions from fans. Those same fans hadn’t heard from Walker for over a year, with her last release being the 2020 EP Life on Earth.

However, earlier this month, the trailer for her new album Still Over It debuted on YouTube. Summer Walker stans raised a glass and then met this latest single. The “Ex For A Reason” is the first taste of what we can expect from Still Over It. Unfortunately, some reviewers are already ‘over it.’

A fall for Summer Walker?

The track, at least on paper, has everything it needs to succeed. Producers on the song include the likes of Buddah Bless and Sean Garrett. Bless has blessed numerous hit singles for artists like 2 ChainzYoungboy NBA, and the Travis Scott-led JackBoys. Garrett also boasts a massively successful musical arsenal. He has produced and composed for Britney Spears, Mario, a very early Nicki Minaj, Ciara, and more. He is also a co-writer on Usher’s galaxy-sized hit “Yeah!”. Joining the fray is JT, one half of the rap duo City Girls. Coming off of the 2020 success of City on Lock, JT seems a good, powerful addition to Walker’s lead-off single.

And then, of course, there’s Summer Walker. What do you say about someone who goes Platinum with their debut album and then shatters the record for biggest streaming-week debut for a female R&B singer? You have high expectations, of course. While the Twitter-verse indeed expects the best, they must also run a stockyard because they’ve got plenty of beef, too.

Some expressed mild disappointment:

Others were a little more…forward.

Still others expressed that rarest of Twitter traits: positivity and gratitude.

What do you think of “Ex For A Reason”? Let us know and stay tuned for coverage on Still Over It!

JT Sets Off Pregnancy Rumors After Maryland Performance

Fans suspect JT is expecting her first child with boyfriend Lil Uzi Vert after a City Girls performance in Maryland. JT, born Jatavia Shakara Johnson, wore a skin-tight blue leotard at the concert, and fans were quick to point out an alleged bump. The video that fueled the rumors points at the 28-year old rapper’s slightly swollen belly during her performance.

https://twitter.com/utbshad/status/1439781328828997633

This is not the first time fans have speculating about her alleged pregnancy. JT recently shared a mirror selfie wearing an unfamiliar armband some fans said resembled a morning sickness band.

The Future of The City Girls

If JT really is pregnant Yung Miami, real name Caresha Romeka Brownlee, could be holding down the City Girls fort for a while. It wouldn’t be the first time the rapper has flown solo. JT was sentenced to a Florida prison in June 2018, for over a year on credit card charges. She was later released on Oct. 8, 2020, and immediately dropped a freestyle to celebrate her freedom.

During that time Yung Miami was busy in the studio, releasing City Girls debut studio album Girl Code. The project features collaborations with charismatic rappers Cardi B, Lil Baby, and Jacquees. Girl Code was ranked 55 on the US Billboard 200, with hit track “Twerk” debuting at 93 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Pregnant or Just A Little Bloated?

JT’s rumored pregnancy had blogs buzzing with sites like The Shade Room sharing the video of her performance. But could the speculation be false? Was the City Girl just a little bloated or is there a baby on the way?

JT herself has been adding fuel to the fire, tweeting about baby names and how much she adores her lover, which only adds fuel to the fire.

JT and Lil Uzi Vert are yet to deny or confirm the rumors.

JT Calls Fan Out For Editing Her BET Awards Red Carpet Look

On Sunday, some of the hottest musicians, including JT, popped out at the BET Awards. During their time on the red carpet, the rappers and singers flaunted their chosen fits for the prestigious event. However, not every fan was in agreeance with the looks they served. One fan, in particular, found it’d be appropriate to virtually enhance JT’s hairline.

Twitter user @iam_azrya decided to edit one picture of JT from Sunday evening. In the edit, she changes JT’s skin tone and changes her hairstyle into a bun.

Eventually, JT came across the photo. And let’s just say she was not pleased. Look at the post here.

So as a retaliation, JT says to the Twitter user, “You actually made me look a mess. I’m beautiful; I don’t need to edit myself. Edit them rolls out your neck.”

Yikes! I advise those who think about pushing JT’s buttons to step away.

Last year, City Girls went onstage in leopard-print catsuits and lace-up black heeled booties surrounded by an army of backup dancers painted in animal print to drive home their “Kitty Talk” chorus. They finished the song barefoot in a pool of water with sultry moves in the rain forest.

Do you like this edit, or do you agree that it was unnecessary? Let us know in the comment section.

Lakeyah Dreams Of Making It To Hollywood In Her ABCs

During XXL Freshman’s ABCs” segment, Quality Control signee, Lakeyah listed Hollywood when asked to define the letter “H.”

“H stands for Hollywood because that’s where I’m a be,” Lakeyah shares. “We in Atlanta now, but that’s next.”

The rising artist also listed several notable items while doing XXL’s ABCs. For “B,” she declares, “B is for bossy because that’s what I think my music is.” Once Lakeyah reached the letter “O,” she signified it as outstanding. She went on to give Megan Thee Stallion some cred for displaying this attribute.

“Shout-out Meg, she said, ‘I don’t stand outside ’cause I’m too outstanding.'”

When it comes to the letter P, she defined it as something she’s currently doing within the rap industry.

“P is for pressure,” she reports. “I’m pressure. I’m coming with the pressure. I got the pressure.”

Elsewhere in the video, we learn that she’s a hopeless romantic, tall, and ambitious.

Lakeyah surely defines a go-getter as she traveled from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Atlanta, Georgia, to become a successful artist. Because of having busy mornings and sleepless nights, the hip-hop figure made a dream into reality. Some songs that fans recognize her from are “Big FlexHer,” “Poppin,” and City Girls’ “Female Goat.” Recently, she dropped a song titled “Young And Ratchet.”

And now, Trina is giving her flowers to another rapstress who, she believes, is taking the music scene by storm.

During a virtual sit down with Fox Soul’s Get Into It with Tami Roman, Trina spoke about her career and who she thinks is positively influencing the hip-hop community in a major way. The interviewer, Taimi, asked the rap icon who she believes is the best woman in Rap within the last five years. Without giving it a second thought, she said Cardi B. Lil Uzi Vert Ditches $24M Diamond Forehead Implant

Lil Uzi Vert shocked the world with his new purchase.

In February, Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert was turning heads like never before. Unexpectedly, he flaunted a natural pink diamond he had implanted in his forehead by jeweler Elliot Eliantte. The stone, worth $24M, inspired plenty of memes and worldwide coverage. He even displayed it in a music video for his song “Movie” in March.

Suddenly, the diamond saga may already be over.

Just a few months later, it seems that Uzi has already moved on from the implant. In the past week, he has appeared in plenty of social media posts with his girlfriend, JT of City Girls. The couple even went on a highly publicized double date with Future and Dess Dior. Shockingly, the rock is absent from his forehead in all of the posts he’s appeared in. In fact, it looks as if it were never there.

Lil Uzi Vert

Additionally, Uzi appeared in a recent Calvin Klein and Heron Preston campaign with plenty of jewelry around his neck, but none in his head.

Nobody is quite sure what happened to the pink stone. Maybe it will make another appearance in the future. However, it seems to be history for now.
