Big Sean Drops New Single With Producer Hit-Boy: “What A Life”

Some rappers take their time. Dropping a new track at the right time can require expert timing. Sometimes, it comes down to who else is releasing what and when? Is it the right time of year? Is it ready? Maybe you’re a perfectionist, and the idea of time is just an afterthought compared to the desired quality. If you happen to be Big Sean, these previous questions do not apply to you. If you are Big Sean, be sure to ignore these concerns, and maybe just go for the new single instead:

Sean’s New single And Overall Swarm

Good for Big Sean. He’s certainly having fun on his new track, “What A Life.” With the aptly named Hit-Boy, Sean delivers some incredibly precise, well-timed flows on this new single. It’s great when you’re backed up by the producer of “Ni**as in Paris,” “Trophies,” and, of course, the Grammy-winning “Racks in the Middle.”

Overall, it’s an examination of where he’s come and where he’s going. He delivers lines like:

Only get one life, swear I almost died twice
I went triple platinum more than three times, what a life, man (Life)
Feel like God went and blessed me with the trick dice

Sean ends the chorus with the memorable:

Go ahead then, tell me what your price is
Mine’s is a hundred B’s, nigga, you can’t swipe this (Bitch)

Speaking of B’s, the music video is worth checking out. Suffice it to say that the video is…experimental. While it’s got your typical video goodies like Sean performing to screaming fans, rapping on rooftops, and the odd floating-above-the-city trick, it’s got something else. Remember that line about bees?

What other rappers do you know that can sit in a high-back leather chair covered in honeymakers? At the time of writing this, it appears that Sean also got off without too many stings. In fact, he hasn’t said anything about stinging. Proof enough that his price, while high, doesn’t do him any harm.

Check out the video below. Remember, if you’re calm and don’t bother them, the bees won’t sting.

Eminem’s Mural in Detroit Got Defaced by Drawings of Birds

Chris Devins “was devastated” and “felt terrible.” He spent around six hours of his Labor Day weekend painting Eminem’s mural in Detroit. The very next day, the artwork got covered in a bunch of little bird heads.

Chris was already at home when he discovered what happened. Someone alerted the artist after they had posted the bird-covered Eminem’s mural on social media. Chris then posted a picture of defaced mural too. He also complained in the caption,

“Only one day after it’s completion, some idiot in Detroit already defaced the new M mural. You can’t give some people anything good. Dumb. I can probably fix it but damn….”

After Instagram, Chris Devins went complaining to The Detroit News. Devins talked about how he “was devastated.” In Chris’s opinion, new graffiti is “disrespectful” and “against the rules of street art.” At the same time, Chris calls his original graffiti “tactical urbanism.” The artist plans to come back and fix his artwork.

Chris also complimented and offended the wall used for artwork in one sentence. “It was a great wall,” he said, “It looked like it was going to sit there for a second, so I thought it could use some beautification.”

In the end, Chris stated that “There was time and effort spent to make sure it was something people would want, and to make it relatable to the community. It’s not just usual tagging.”

Eminem is not the first rapper pictured by Chris Devins. Chris has also painted a mural for Juice WRLD and King Von in Chicago. Even though King Von’s graffiti was commissioned, police tried to take it down because of gang tensions.

Delilah Martinez was commissioning the graffiti. She also talked with Complex about the matter and said, ““Their complaints were that the mural would promote gang retaliation: people coming to shoot up the mural. They were worried about people in that area. After they said all that, they were like, ‘This has been going on for years.’ And I’m like yes! That has nothing to do with the mural!”

Big Sean’s New Album Detroit 2 is Out Now

Big Sean (@bigsean) recently dropped his first album in three years, Detriot 2, this past Friday. Detroit 2 is his first solo album since I Decided in 2017, his second No. 1 album. He’d originally planned to announce the album on a day that is special to Detroit, “313 Day” on March 13th, but delayed his announcement due to the COVID’19 pandemic. He later announced on Twitter that the release date for the album would be September 4th.

As a sequel to his 2012 mixtape, “Detroit”, Big Sean continues his story about his dearest home town. Big Sean, real name Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, was raised in Detroit by his mother and grandmother, and this new album is a tribute to the city that shaped him into a young man.

Big Sean voiced to Joe Budden, former rapper and hip hop critic, that he has been struggling the past few years due to the pressures of being in the rap industry and just life in general. He comes out strong in the first song of the 21-track album, “Why Would I Stop?” by sharing his mentality that he will never give up on his music and that his time away was in fact temporary. As the album continues, he raps about the struggles he has faced throughout his time in the music industry and his feelings of being overshadowed by other artists.

He released the lead single for the album, “Deep Reverence” featuring Nipsey Hussle, on August 25. The album’s second single, “Harder than my Demons” was released on the 31st of August along with a music video.

The album features Eminem, Lil Wayne, Post Malone, Travis Scott and Stevie Wonder just to name a few. Big Sean also has several tracks with his on-off girlfriend and collaborator Jhené Aiko. The track “Time In” features them as Twenty88, the name they used when releasing an album under the same title.

Throughout the album, Big Sean and his features touch on issues such as pressures he faces throughout his career, social injustices in the black community, gang violence, personal struggles, and oppression. Overall, the album is flawless. Big Sean continues to impress us with his versatility and transparency. Over half of the songs on the album have already made it in the iTunes Top 100: USA and the album itself is #1 on the iTunes Top 100 albums of 2020!

Tee Grizzley and Meek Mill Spit Jail Bars For “First Day Out” Remix

Hope every one weekend went well. Welcome back FM Trendsetters!  Yesterday, the upcoming rapper from Detroit, Tee Grizzley dropped a highly anticipated remix of his overnight success banger “First Day Out“.   The remix features a rapper from Philadelphia whom we all hope get to his “First Day Out“, especially after all the foul and alleged crooked business dealing with the Defense Attorney and Judge on his case.  But despite the madness and jail time, that did not stop the bars and rhymes of Philly’s own Meek Mill.  The song still gives off that vibe of when you first come out the Feds (Federal Prison for the street illiterate).  “Fresh out ain’t nothing to go baaaaack” (Comedian Mr. Commodore’s Voice). I swear this is perfect music to put on your iPod when you hitting some sets on the bench, lifting barbells, or push ups.  “N****z praying on my downfall” chanting  in your ear as you achieve maximum goals.  This track is still motivation for the streets.  With Meek Mill on the track, just adds more inspiration.
