The Bet Awards have finally arrived. The event at Microsoft Theater kicked off with a red carpet stroll. And all the stars showed up. Some hit the mark and dressed to impress. But others, they missed it completely. Keep scrolling to find out who the best and worst of BET Awards Fashion were.
Top Looks, Good and Bad, From The 2022 BET Awards
One performer that all eyes were watching for, Lizzo, showed up looking incredible. And giving off Dream Girls vibes. Her hair was set in soft curls with finger waves. Giving her an elegant and vintage look. With her dark blue Gucci gown featuring black feather details and a stunning slit.
Chance the Rapper, who is a performer at the awards, was one who didn’t seem to understand the assignment. Typically a casual outfit works when it is pulled off well. But his look was not only too casual, it was all over the place. His sweatshirt was busy enough, but with his pants, which looked liked paint was thrown all over them blindly, it was chaos.
Eva Marcille showed up and stunned in her silver beaded dress. The model never seems to disappoint when it comes to an outfit. Her look gave off Gatsby vibes and she has never looked better. Her two toned braids swept up on top of her head just made her look even more stunning.
DreamDoll strutted down the red carpet in a gold mesh two piece. But instead of being sexy, it made her look like a mermaid caught in a net. Not only was everything see through. She wore a matching thong higher than the skirt. Which may have been popular in the late 90s early 2000s. Thanks to low rise jeans. But is not something that needs to come back.
Silver was definitely the color of the night. Because Marsai Martin showed up in a custom Dolce & Gabbana and had everyone staring. The actress/producer’s dress featured spaghetti straps, fringe, and diamond embellishments. And her matching silver platform sandals completed the look.
Typically wearing all black works. It doesn’t matter what the event. However, Shaun Ross’ all black attire to the BET Awards did not. The matching two piece set looked like a pair of pajamas. Although the outfit did feature some shimmering aspects, it looked cheap. Paired with the grills, sunglasses, and nails. Not to mention the rubber toe socks! It just didn’t see like some we’d expect from a model who’s worked with Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Vogue, and GQ.
Chloe Bailey had a moment in her edgy swirl dress. The black Nicolas Jeban piece had an artistic flare and strapless bodice. And the black sparkles paired with her long train was everything. Her hair was swept up in a high ponytail with a smokey eye and nude lip.
We love Coi Leray, but the No More Panties artist tried to bring back Y2K and it was a miss. She walked the red carpet in a Canadian tuxedo remake and it just didn’t work. She wore an oversized denim blazer and white button down, left open. Under Leray showed off a barely there bralette and denim mini skirt. As if that wasn’t enough, she wore thigh high denim boots.
Billy Porter will always take it there to create a moment. And last night was no exception. The actor wowed fans in a gray knit sweater with ultra high shoulders and a matching skirt. To complete the look he wore bold platform heels. An all gray ensemble may seem boring. However, Porter will never allow that. As a result, the actor added white and red eyeshadow to serve a splash of color!
Listen, we can appreciate anyone that likes to ride a fine line. But Saucy Santana took it to an extreme on the red carpet. The artist wore a black blazer dress with green and yellow details. And paired the fit with fuzzy knee high green boots. Which made the Walk rapper look like a cross between Cher from Clueless and a Muppet. However, the chain link bracelets he accessorized with deserve to be recognized. Because those were incredible.
Pop of color, especially pastels, was a feature on the red carpet as well. And Lena Waithe showed up for it. The actress and producer wore a crisp light blue suit with pink and green lapels. And a sky blue button down with a yellow accent. Although the shirt and suit were two different colors and could have created a clash. The Chi creator pulled it off.
Big Freddia showed up on the carpet with an oversized pink ruffle gown. And it featured dramatic sleeves and a rainbow center. But the hot pink material used appeared cheap and there was zero shape. Despite the fact that there was a corset. With her arms opened she looked like a butterfly about to take flight. But with them closed she appeared to be in a tacky Marie Antoinette costume.
Now there was an example of when all black attire works. Jack Harlow decided on a casual look. Pairing black jeans, accessorized with a silver chain and patent leather kicks. However, that wasn’t what caught everyone’s attention. Because the rapper decided to make a statement by wearing a Lil Nas X t-shirt to show support for his fellow artist. The Montero rapper has been extremely vocal about his lack of nominations and “fighting to be seen.”
It’s been a rough few weeks for Blac Chyna after losing her lawsuit against the Kardashians. And her look on the red carpet didn’t help turn her luck around. The singer decided on a glittering gold strapless dress with a low-cut neckline and high slit. Her look was accompanied by long nails and gold shoes. However, none of this was problematic. In fact, describing the dress simply like that sounds stunning. What made it go down hill was the chess pieces that stuck out of the top of her dress. They were weird, unnecessary, and frankly ruined her look.
Now a man that did it right was Alvester Martin. The actor wore an ombre turquoise suit, that got lighter as it went to his feet. He decided against a shirt, which no one minded! And wore ankle dark gray boots. He accessorized with a few silver link chains and bracelet. As well as rings. He truly showed up and turned heads.
But everyone has their own taste and style. So there may be more that deserve to be on the list. Check out all of the BET Fashion.
