Wu-Tang Clan To Show Off Merchandise In Fortnite Crossover

Iconic rap group Wu-Tang Clan is making its debut in Fortnite. However, like past celebrity collabs with the likes of Travis Scott and Ariana Grande, they won’t be characters. The hip-hop crew will debut their merchandise inside the popular game. Players will be able to purchase clothing items from the Fortnite shop starting Apr. 23. “Fortnite has been in my household for years,” said Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA in an official statement.  “It’s been a pleasure and joy watching the game evolve, while becoming the go-to pastime,” he said.

“This collaboration is a multigenerational ‘drip’ of swag and cool. If what you say is true, Fortnite and Wu-Tang could be Fortangerous.”

In this rollout, there will be two outfits to pick from. In addition, players can also choose Wu-Tang themed emotes and items like the Neck Protector and Triumphant Tagger Pickaxes. According to Yahoo, the group will drop an accompanying “capsule,” which will include physical versions of the Fortnite fits.

Wu-Tang’s History With Video Games

This isn’t the group’s foray into the video game medium. Moreover, in 1999, they released WuTangShaolin Style, also known as WuTang: Taste the Pain, via PlayStation. Method Man and Ghostface Killah appeared as characters in Def Jam Vendetta. In 2016, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang was released, and they followed with a sequel in 2020. Collectively, the members put out music for the official soundtracks for popular games like Saints Row and True Crime: New York City. Most recently, it was announced another Wu-Tang x Shaolin game is in the works. Because of their extensive history with video game collabs, Wu-Tang made way for other hip-hop artists to do the same.

After all, with this new project underway, Wu-Tang joins a collective of celebrities who have Fortnite skins, virtual concerts, merch, and emotes. However, players can purchase the Wu-Tang merch Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

Travis Scott Faces Potential Loss of Endorsements In Wake of Astroworld Disaster

When you associate your brand with a personality, whether someone as famous and recognized as Travis Scott or a micro-influencer with a few thousand followers, there’s always a risk. As the impact of the Astroworld Festival Disaster, which has now resulted in nine deaths, continues to unfold, Travis Scott’s liability in the tragedy remains a question mark. While his music will almost certainly continue to be successful in the long run, his status as a significant corporate face and figure remain in jeopardy.

Following the show, Scott has had to deal with a lot of repercussions. Following the incident, Epic Games’ Fortnite has halted the sale of Scott’s The Out West emote. Emotes are a feature that allows gamers to dance to specific songs via their video avatars. Scott has canceled his performance at Day N’ Vegas, a hip-hop festival set to take place on November 13th.

In addition, fans started a petition to have him removed from the Coachella lineup in 2022. Similarly, the Houston Rockets, his hometown NBA team, have opted to postpone their planned “Travis Scott Day” indefinitely. Instead, the Rockets honored the victims with a moment of silence on the night in question.

Scott is slated to be the face of Dior’s forthcoming spring/summer collection in the coming months. Now, Dior has the tough decision to potentially cancel the entire upcoming collection with Scott. That would definitely be a monumental move for a fashion company just months away from shipping the merchandise to stores.

Travis Scott Faces Pressure as Lawsuits Pile Up

Travis Scott currently faces over 200 lawsuits and counting, affecting more than just his brand deals.

At a news conference today, Ben Crump said that he and other attorneys have filed a complaint on behalf of 90 more persons who attended Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival. The surging crowd during Scott’s set injured hundreds of individuals at the festival.

“Mentally, physically, and psychologically,” Crump said of the victims.

“This should never, ever have happened,” he added.
