SZA Will Make Acting Debut In New Film ‘Tuna Melt’

SZA‘s first ever film appearance will feature her playing the lead love interest in a new movie titled “Tuna Melt.” Also appearing in the movie are the famous Chloe Cherry (from the HBO hit series Euphoria) and Eddie Huang. Eddie Huang is the main character and SZA’s love interest, and Eddie will be writing and directing the film. Previously, SZA herself appeared in television shows such as season 4 of Issa Rae’s hit series “Insecure.” Are you excited to watch SZA act in her first movie role? Current Status Of Her New Music Rollout

While many fans are excited about this new endeavor for the famous singer, there are still questions about when her new album will be released. SZA and her label Top Dawg Entertainment haven’t always been able to keep quiet about the rollout and the time spent perfecting the product. However, it’s still slated to be released this year and she’s dropped a bunch of singles during the album hiatus. In the meantime, SZA and TDE did release a deluxe version of her classic R&B album “CTRL” earlier this year. This was done in celebration of the album’s 5th anniversary and features a handful of tracks that didn’t make the original release.

 

SZA Fans Will Be Fine This Year

I do not doubt that we’ll all be listening to a new album from SZA by the end of 2022. While some of their strategies may be tedious for fans, TDE still has a solid track record and has been more active in the past year. With that said, we can at least enjoy and support SZA’s other endeavors until that day arrives. She’s been working hard to solidly establish herself, her brand, and her legacy. Kehlani Couldn’t Keep Quiet About ‘Euphoria’

Kehlani reacts to 'Euphoria'

The HBO hit series Euphoria is getting everyone’s blood boiling amidst the stir of drama in season two, episode six. The show is prominently known for highlighting a group of high schoolers going down a path of sex, drugs, and violence. Millions of viewers tune in to the latest episodes every week, including R&B singer, Kehlani. The 27-year-old singer goes to Instagram to express her commentary of Cassie, the infamously disliked protagonist. 

In the last episode of Euphoria, Cassie struggles to cope with stabbing her best friend, Maddie, in the back after sleeping with her abusive ex-boyfriend, Nate. In this episode, Cassie is sitting in bed pondering her decision, and hanging on the wall is singer, Kehlani’s SweetSexySavage album poster.

Kehlani’s reaction

With Kehlani being a fan of the show, spotting her poster must have been exhilarating. Years ago, it was considered a goal for fans to plaster their favorite artist onto their walls. This scene is reminiscent of those times. Kehlani music expresses the roller-coaster of love. Her debut album SweetSexySavage features the hit song “Distraction,” which the chorus sings,

“Are you down to be a distraction, baby? 

But don’t distract me, let me ask you, baby

Do you, do you, do you do you wanna be

A distraction, baby?”

This song suits Cassie, the widely known double-crosser, as she ends the episode moving in with her best friend’s ex-boyfriend, Nate. In this particular episode, Cassie attempts suicide while driving her family mad. Perhaps she should also use Nate as a distraction now to relieve the stress. Kehlani’s posts on her Instagram story read, “Cassie… you got my poster on yo wall girl… THIS WHAT U BEEN LEARNING FROM MY MUSIC?! Aw hell. Heal girl HEAL!” And, indeed, Cassie should probably focus her efforts on healing, but as of now, it appears she’s going down a rabbit hole.

Alongside that poster, Kehlani also spotted her 2019 album, While We Wait, on Cassie’s wall, which features songs like “Too Deep”, “Nights like this”, and “Feels”. Euphoria and Kehlani’s music also share the expression of a relatable whirlwind of emotions. As viewers, we have yet to see where Cassie’s storyline with Nate will lead, but is it safe to assume the music choice will foreshadow more dramatic events to come? I guess we’ll have to stay tuned to the next episode.

DMX and Juice WRLD Documentaries Coming This Year

HBO announced they will release two documentaries later this year: one following DMX, and another focused on Juice WRLD. Both artists, who died within two years of each other, died in drug-related incidents. While DMX had been in the game for a long time, Juice was an up-and-comer in the hip-hop world. DMX’s documentary will come out first, on November 25, with Juice’s following on December 16.

Both documentaries are part of the network’s new documentary series, “Music Box,” from executive producer Bill Simmons. The series also includes films on Alanis Morissette, Kenny G, and Robert Stigwood, the man behind Saturday Night Fever.

“DMX: Don’t Try to Understand” focuses on DMX’s release from prison in 2019, as he attempts to rebuild his career in the music industry and reconnect with family and fans. Christopher Frierson directed the documentary. DMX faced imprisonment for tax fraud and relapsing on his drug treatment program. He died on April 9, 2021, due to a cocaine-induced heart attack.

Meanwhile, “Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss” follows Juice’s struggle to navigate his meteoric rise to fame, his drug use, and mental health issues. It will include never-before-seen footage, unreleased music, and dozens of industry interviews. Tommy Oliver will direct the documentary. Juice WRLD died at Chicago’s Midway International Airport in December 2019 shortly after he landed. Juice’s death was eventually attributed to an accidental drug overdose.

“Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss” is not the only Juice Wrld documentary that is in the works. The trailer for the documentary, “Fighting Demons,” was released at Rolling Loud New York this past weekend.

Award Winning Actor Michael K Williams found Dead In his NYC Apartment

The star we all know and love from over two decades on the big screen has passed away. Michael K. Williams, best known for his stellar performance in “The Wire” as Omar Little, was found dead Monday afternoon. The cause of death is unknown, though rumor says it is due to a drug overdose in his NYC penthouse.

According to a relative, Williams did not show up to an event on Friday. Since no one had heard from him over the weekend, friends and associates decided to check on him Monday. NY Post reports, he was found unresponsive and cold, there was what appeared to be heroin on the table as he laid face down on the floor.

 

Just a few months prior, Williams delivered a powerful tribute at the memorial of DMX who had just passed earlier this year of a drug overdose. “It was an honor DMX and I, Jada we just some nappy-headed boys from these greedy streets of New York City. We went after our dream, and we accomplished it. If anybody knows my story I and X are cut from a similar cloth. On some personal shit,” Williams told BET, as he expressed his grief to lose a loved one.

 

Williams’s roles brought struggles

However, he shared a similar struggle with DMX.  Of course, most of us know of DMX’s struggles with drug addiction, and Williams openly told NPR back in 2016 that he did as well. “When I wear these characters to the extent I have to wear them to, that energy has to go somewhere,” he said. Indeed, the dark energy of Omar Little, that hit a little too close to home, (per NPR). Williams had expressed the toll of playing the dynamic Little being one of the causes of his drug use.

 

We pray for his family’s healing and peace in this difficult time.

Season 4 of LeBron James’s TV show is coming with some special guest stars

“The Shop: Uninterrupted” is a show on HBO produced by LeBron, which was just announced for its 4th season. “The Shop: Uninterrupted” features intense and diverse conversation topics and many special guests in barbershops across the country. The goal of the show is to provide an unscripted look at different topics in the world of entertainment, politics, and sports, while also providing the ambiance and familiarity of a barbershop.

Soon, the show will go into its fourth season with a strong start. Most importantly, the season premiere will include some interesting guest stars. The premiere will feature musicians Jay-Z and Bad Bunny, WNBA star Nneka Ogwumike, and marketing executive Paul Rivera. The lineup is impressive to fans of the show, with interest mainly centered around the well-known musicians. The show has ties to many communities including music and sports, making it a must-watch for a large audience. In the past, guests have been equally impressive, including Barack Obama, Lil Nas X, Will Smith, Jimmy Kimmel, Snoop Dogg, and many more.

The Shop: Uninterrupted

If you want to see these amazing guest stars and more, be sure to look out for the new season! With legend LeBron James starring in and producing the show, we know it will be worth the watch. It is available on Hulu and HBO Max. The premiere will air on HBO on May 28 at 9:30 pm.

Issa Rae Talks Inspiration Behind New “Rap Shit” Series…

Issa Rae may be pulling the plug on her breakout series Insecure, but that does not mean the Los Angeles native will stop future endeavors. Earlier, Rae inked a five-year overall deal with Warner Media. Joining her HOORAE media label in partnership with the company. Giving HBO, HBO Max, and Warner Bros. exclusive rights to Rae’s work in television. Plus, a film deal that will span to Warnermedia brands. Including, Pictures Group, Warner Bros., HBO Max, and New Line. With Insecure approaching its last season, that means upcoming projects produced in the new deal. 

In addition to this new deal, Issa Rae is currently working on a new venture: Rap Sh*t. Created from controversial comments from Jermaine Dupri regarding women rappers.

Rae told Rolling Stone, “I was just like, ‘This is so unfair.” Adding that his interview is what “inspired the writing of the series. In the interview, Jermaine Dupri criticized women rappers as having not enough variety. And states he does not have a current female rapper because “they’re all rapping about the same thing.”  

“I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper.” Dupri continues, “For me, it’s like strippers rapping and as far as rap goes I’m not getting who’s the best rapper.” 

Feeling motivated by Dupri’s tone-deaf comments, Rae felt inspired and created the series. Based on 2 Miami friends trying to make it in the industry. The series will focus on the City Girls. The real-life Miami duo, who made a name for themselves. And is seen as the new wave of female rappers taking over the industry. 

Rae and Syreeta Singleton will also executive produce the series. City Girls; Yung Miami, and JT will also serve as executive producers. Serving as executive producer, Montreal Mckay will produce with Jonathon Berry and Dave Becky (3 Arts Entertainment). Pierre “P” Thomas and Kevin Coach K Lee of Quality Control Films is executive producing with HOORAE’s Sara Rastogi. 

With all the Covid restrictions lifting, the series will begin filming this summer. So be on the lookout because this will be very entertaining.

The Leaving Neverland Trailer Leaves Michael Jackson Fans Shocked

Michael Jackson will always be one of the most notable names in music. From his iconic “Thriller” music video to his Pepsi commercial, he is known to many generations as a musical legend and of course, the King of Pop. With his amount of fame, scandals bound to appear and take the spot light for a little bit. Nearly 10 years after Jackson’s passing, HBO is releasing a documentary surrounding one of his scandals titled Leaving Neverland.

March 3rd and 4th is the planned release date for Leaving Neverland. The documentary is less about Jackson and more about the story of two young boys who befriended him. The two now grown men, share their eerily similar stories about Jackson allegedly abusing them.  It follows the men’s friends and families and how they are coping with the supposed tragedy. The trailer is as dark as one might imagine. It features photos of Jackson with children, while a victim’s voiceover recalls their side of what happened 30 years ago.

Critics have praised Leaving Neverland for its harrowing story telling, but a rep for the estate called it “another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on Michael Jackson“. Many Jackson fans are outraged that HBO has taken part in such slander since there is little to no evidence that is working in the alleged victims favor.
