Tory Lanez’s First Statement After Receiving 10-year Prison Sentence

Rapper Tory Lanez has released his first statement since being sentenced for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. The Canadian is continuing to emphasize that he is innocent. “I will never let no jail time eliminate me,” says Lanez. He continues by adding, “Regardless of how they try to spin my words – I have always maintained my innocence, and I always will.”

Tory Lanez Takes “Some Responsibility”

Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, says he is only taking responsibility “for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved… That’s it.” He believes he has been “wrongfully convicted.” Peterson has previously told the court otherwise.

New Merchandise After Conviction

The “Chixtape” singer concludes the statement with a quote, “Tough times don’t last – tough people do.” Tory Lanez also thanks his family, friends and fans for their continued support. Plus, the songwriter is selling merchandise as he does time in prison on his website ForeverUmbrella.com

Tory Lanez Would Have Qualified For Probation

The new statement is contradicting as Daystar Peterson told the court he took “full responsibility” for what he did on July 12, 2020. Prosecutors reached for a 13-year prison sentence, but legally the “Penthouse Red” rapper was eligible for up to 22. Tory Lanez would have qualified for probation if the judge discovered unusual circumstances. However, the only unusual thing about this case was that two famous people were involved – and he did not consider this a factor.

Bun B Continues To Support Megan Thee Stallion

Rap Legend Bun B reacted to the recent news of Lanez’s sentencing. He told TMZ it was a “wake-up call for violence against women.” The hip-hop icon went on to say this case is a “lesson for society… and less about hip-hop culture.” After the shooting took place, the Texas rapper was one of the only few public figures to publicly defend Megan Pete. At the time, Bun B shared an hour-long video in which he criticized others for not supporting the “Simon Says” performer. Popular public figures have supported Pete, like Halle Berry, JoJo, Kehlani, and Chance The Rapper.

Iggy Azalea Maintains No Contact With Ex-Boyfriend Playboi Carti

It’s been a long time since we watched the relationship between two of Hip-Hop’s most polarizing artists turn sour. Yesterday, April 12th, Iggy Azalea aired out Playboi Carti on Twitter again & revealed that she purposefully doesn’t speak to Carti anymore. This is following a recent interview Playboi Carti did with XXL, where he claimed Iggy as one of the people he provides for & takes care of.

In her now-deleted tweets, it’s evident that Iggy found his interview answer humorous. Unfortunately, we’re watching this play out publicly, as the two have a young child together & are co-parenting. Take a look at Iggy’s initial reaction below:

Playboi Carti’s Exact Statement With Context

So what sparked this negative discourse online? As mentioned above, Playboi Carti is featured in XXL’s 2022 Spring Issue, which contains a very insightful interview with the “Whole Lotta Red” rapper. The specific question that led to Carti’s allegedly false response was about fatherhood experiences.

“I’m a father. You know what I’m saying? You know how it is having kids,” the Atlanta rapper stated at the start of his response.

“I just got responsibilities. I pay a lot of bills,” he then added. Carti then added he needs to “take care of my baby mom [and] take care of my son. There’s a lot of people I take care of. So, it’s like, I gotta keep doing it.”

Overall, seemed like Carti did have good intentions, but Iggy also isn’t in the wrong if he is lying about that.

Their Relationship Moving Forward

Iggy Azalea & Playboi Carti are so far removed from their former relationship that this news doesn’t change too much. Hopefully, these two can find the middle ground because co-parenting their son Onyx will only get more complex.

We don’t know who’s telling the truth, but the answer lies somewhere in the middle. In short, this is just another example of love evolving into negativity. Read more of FM Hip-Hop’s featured articles today.

Iggy Azalea is “Taking a Break” from Music

Iggy Azalea hints at retirement from rap for the next few years.

On Thursday, rapper Iggy Azalea took to  Twitter to announce her retirement from rap to focus on other creative endeavours. This announcement comes before the release of her third LP, End of an Era, which will drop later this summer. While this is not the first break she has taken in her career, it definitely seems necessary for her mental health. In the tweet, she explained by saying “[I’m] going to take a few years to focus on other creative projects and things I’m feeling passionate and inspired by, beyond music.” Fans were overall excited to see her explore other creative outlets and live her best life.

Leading up to the announcement, Iggy Azalea stayed busy in the first half of 2021. Earlier this year, she released “Sip It” with frequent collaborator, Tyga. A few weeks ago, she dropped another single and music video, titled “I Am The Stripclub,” which will hopefully make an appearance on her upcoming LP. Leading up to her album, Iggy has made sure to keep her fans happy with singles, teasers, and music videos. Since 2014 Iggy has remained a prominent name in the pop and hip-hop communities. Fans will miss Iggy as she leaves these communities to pursue new creative endeavours. Although, considering her success in rap we know it won’t be difficult for her!
