Biggs Signed Off On Kanye West

Speedy Morman recently interviewed Kareem “Biggs” Burke for a special Netflix chat. The interview centered around Kanye West and his 3-part documentary “Jeen-Yuhs.”. Biggs talks about how he always saw the talent in Ye and how he supported the rising genius. The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records knew that Kanye would be a giant in the game. Therefore, he is excited to see his growth to the top. Biggs’s approval means a lot in this hip-hop world, and Kanye has it.

Bigg Becomes Part Of A Movement

Kareem Burke was born in 1974, while hip-hop was still in its infant stages. Biggs always had a hustler’s mentality, which is still apparent today. He always loved music, even when he was just a party promoter. Eventually, Burke connected with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Damon “Dame” Dash. The three of them teamed up and created Roc-A-Fella during the 90s.

The Music Of Roc-A-Fella

Roc-A-Fella and their artist will always be recognized in the history of hip-hop. Many of the artists signed to Roc-A-Fella also became legends in rap. Biggs was in the mix when it came to signing big names. Beanie Segal, The Diplomats, Mystikal, Jay-Z, and then Kanye West are all part of Roc-A-Fella history. All these artists resembled the unique and captivating brand of the label they were signed to. Fans wanted to imitate everything they saw the Roc-A-Fella artist doing. They wanted to drink what they drank, live how they lived, dress how they dressed, rap as they rapped.

Street Fashion Becomes High Fashion

Fans of hip-hop immediately recognized the name of Roc-A-Fella and the respect of the brand is also at an all-time high for its impact on the culture. Roc-A-Fella was able to bring the fashion of the streets to the masses. The Roc pushed durags under caps, jerseys, baggie pants, and a nice pair of kicks as a look. Founders of Roc-A-Fella capitalized on this and created a fashion line. We can’t minimalize Biggs contributions to Rocawear, so his name should always be mentioned with Jay-Z and Dam Dash.

Biggs After Roc-A-Fella?

Biggs didn’t stop hustling after the Roc-A-Fella Records breakup. He has started other fashion lines, produced a movie and documentary, created a management company. The hustle in Kareem Burke will not burn out because he continues to have a role in hip-hop. Remember,  Biggs, co-sign matters if you are planning to be in hip-hop. If he sees talent in you, run with it.

Ye And Kendrick Lamar Set To Headline Rolling Loud Miami

It’s official: Ye and Kendrick Lamar will headline Rolling Loud this summer. The two hip-hop giants join the likes of Future, Three 6 Mafia, Saweetie, and more for this concert.  The news spread around social media Tuesday as the official Rolling Loud Twitter account posted about the event. Kendrick Lamar previously performed at the festival in 2017. In 2021, Ye made a surprise appearance at Rolling Loud California alongside Future.

Last year’s headliners included Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, and Post Malone. It was a memorable event due to technical difficulties and a bizarre homophobic rant from DaBaby. In the aftermath of DaBaby’s rant, he apologized, and was back performing later that year with 50 Cent. Fans hoped Travis Scott would be at this year’s fest. However, he has other things to worry about after his own  controversy.

The Headliners Are Keeping Busy

Kanye is accumulating his own attention, making headlines every week over a public feud with his estranged wife Kim Kardashian. Despite the negative press, he is receiving positive feedback on his Netflix documentary Jeen-Yuhs. The three-part docuseries premiered last month and features clips of the rapper’s life from over the last decade. Fans of Kendrick Lamar, however, are frustrated over the rapper’s lack of music releases. Rumors the Compton rapper will soon drop another album were circulating even last year. Kendrick recently announced he’s leaving Top Dawg Entertainment. He’s allegedly working on his final album under the record label. No word yet on whether he will continue to release music under a different company.

Ye takes the stage on day 1, Future performs on day 2, and Kendrick performs on the final day. Over 100 acts can be seen over the festival’s three-day span. The festival will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida from July 22 to July 24. Tickets will go on sale March 7 at 12 p.m Eastern Time.

Ye Unsatisfied With “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” Final Cut

Fans are incredibly excited to watch Ye’s Netflix documentary “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.” However, it looks like the titular rapper isn’t happy with how it’s turning out.

Ye posted on his Instagram Friday (Jan. 21) to candidly rant about his upcoming doc. Apparently, the Chicago rapper hasn’t had as significant a role in the “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” editing process as he feels necessary. Ye also expressed his need to sign off on the final product before its release.

“I’m going to say this kindly for the last time,” he typed under a photo of the “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” poster. “I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix. Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image. Thank you in advance.”

Making  “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy”

The production/ filming of the doc has gone over several years by Chike Ozah and Coodie Simmons. Chike and Coodie are long-time directorial collaborators and also friends of Ye. “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” addresses critical moments in West’s career, like his introduction to Jay-Z, his 2020 presidential campaign, and the passing of his mother. With both directors curating footage for nearly two decades, fans will then see an entirely new side of Ye.

While Coodie and Ye have a close friendship, the editing of the doc may be a point of contention. Simmons recently spoke with Variety about the film. “I said, ‘Dude, you have to trust me.’ And he did, 100%,” the director recounted.

“I needed to tell this story. It’s not about making Kanye likable or not. The footage doesn’t lie. What makes the film special is that it’s not something definitive; it’s [Ye’s] journey through my vision.”

Ye is known for his outspoken nature and also being particular about his image. In a November interview on the “Drink Champs” podcast, he spoke openly on his art and several of his peers. Namely, Ye called out Jay-Z for a set of lyrics the artist didn’t like on the original version of “Donda.” In addition to that, he stated, signing Big Sean was “the worst thing I’ve done.” Clearly, Ye isn’t the type of guy to hold his tongue.

“jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” will make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival later this month and subsequently be released on Netflix. One thing is sure: Ye is determined to have the last say.
