Joyce Wrice and Kaytranada dropped their much-anticipated collaboration “Iced Tea.” It came out on Wednesday, Mar 16. This single comes after dropping her debut album, “Overgrown,” in 2021.
The album featured artists like Masego, Freddie Gibbs, Lucky Daye, and UMI. This album dropped after her previous project, “Stay Around,” which dropped in 2016.
Renowned producer Kaytranada has also been busy collaborating with artists like Maeta, H.E.R., and Lou Phelps. His previous efforts earned him four Grammy nominations, of which he won two.
This isn’t their first song together, however. Kaytranada appeared on Wrice’s album on the track “Kaytra’s Interlude.” The song, reminiscent of Aaliyah circa 2000, is 1:20 of ethereal vocals from Wrice while Kaytranada spits over a mid-tempo hip-hop beat.
Joyce Wrice has kept busy since her album debuted. Earlier this year, she put out the theme song for Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. These are big footsteps to follow in because industry legends Destiny’s Child and Solange recorded the original theme song.
The 29-year-old is looking forward to the future as well. She talked about the possibility of someday being nominated for a Grammy. “It’s definitely a goal that I wrote down because if I even just get nominated, that’s a win for my community,” she said. “I just really wanna show and encourage other people with this potential nomination or win.” She received recognition from Q-Tip and Mark Ronson as well.
Connecting the Dots
This year, Wrice is going on tour with fellow R&B crooner Lucky Daye. Though we know the connection between Wrice and Daye, there’s a connection between all three artists. Kaytranada and Lucky Daye collaborated on the single “Look Easy” in 2020.
The tour starts in Portland, OR on March 18, ending April 23 with the last stop in New York City’s Terminal 5. Tickets for the concert tour are available now.
