Bi+ Visibility Day: 8 Rappers Who Like Multiple Genders

Since 1999, the Bi Day of Visibility has been celebrated annually on Sep 23. Though the hip-hop world may seem at odds with the LGBTQ community, more rappers than ever have been open about their sexuality. Recently, Megan Thee Stallion and Yung Miami discussed their love of women on the web show Caresha Please. The clip went viral, with some fans surprised, given Miami’s previous opinions on gay men.

However, these women weren’t the only rappers to come out in recent years.

Doja Cat

Though the video might just seem like a bad pun, she rested her sexuality in another Instagram live. Doja said, “I like d–ks, and I also like, um, I like people that I can have sex with. You can kind of have sex with anybody, right?”

Cardi B

Cardi clapped back at a Twitter troll attempting to invalidate her sexuality. However, the rapper first came out in 2018 after collaborating with singer Rita Ora and receiving backlash. At the time, she tweeted, “I personally myself had experiences with other woman, shiieeett with a lot of woman!” Rita Ora also explained that the song wasn’t meant to be offensive and that she also dated women.

Earlier this year, Lil Wop came out in a now unavailable Instagram post. For Valentine’s Day, the rapper posted a selfie with pigtails and a rolled-up t-shirt captioned “I’m Bisexual I Like Guys & Girls.” Some thought the rapper was hacked or dared to make the post, but in a follow-up comment, he said, “I’m gay idgaf what anybody think foreal.”

Azealia Banks

One of the most outspoken rappers on the scene, Azealia Banks, has always been open about her sexuality. She initially came out ten years ago in an interview with The New York Times

Unfortunately, another incident would force Azealia to again acknowledge that she’s her bi. In 2015, the rapper caught hell after using the f-slur against gay men. She defended herself, saying, “for f–k’s sake, just give the Azealia banks is a homophobe thing a rest because I’m not.” She continued, “I have a transgender sibling. My whole life is gay. All of my friends are gay, I am bisexual.” While people say this doesn’t absolve her, the rapper still has a strong cult following.

Yung Baby Tate

Yung Baby Tate has discussed her sexuality before. “I identify as a bisexual black woman,” she said in an interview with TheGumbo.net. “It’s important for me as a black girl to show young black girls they can be successful by just being themselves – every part of themselves.”

Lil Peep

The late rapper confirmed his sexuality via Twitter just a few months before his untimely death. The rapper overdosed on fentanyl in November 2017 at age 21 and is widely remembered as an emo rap icon.

BbyMutha

In an interview with Metal Magazine, BbyMutha spoke on the difficulties of figuring out her identity and how it pertains to art. She said she called herself bi because that’s the label people put on you when you like men and women. But she clarified, saying, “I just stopped calling myself anything. I’m not a girl, I’m not a boy; I’m not gay, I’m not straight. I’m just a person.”

Taylor Bennett

His brother Chance, The Rapper, seemed supportive, wishing him a happy birthday the day after his announcement. These tweets came right before the rapper released his 2017 mixtape, Restoration Of An American Idol.

Bisexuality itself is a spectrum. Some people identify as queer, some as pansexual, and others don’t label themselves. However, bisexuality isn’t just about men and women; it includes transgender and non-binary people as well. These rappers are setting the pace for diversity and bi visibility in hip-hop and opening the doors for more artists to be out and proud.

Future Brings Out Travis Scott, Surprises Fans At Rolling Loud Miami

Many artists that took the stage at the Rolling Loud Miami festival. Some even brought out special guests. On Saturday, July 23rd, Future surprised many fans during his headlined set as he welcomed Travis Scott to the stage.

According to Hip Hop DX, rumor has it that Travis Scott was banned from performing at Rolling Loud as 10 people were killed during his Astroworld Festival back in November of 2021. The source reports his banning may have been the reason Kanye West stepped down last minute from headlining Friday’s show and was replaced by Kid Cudi. However, a spokesperson for Rolling Loud updated us in regards to Travis Scott’s headline saying, “We reached out to Travis to headline Rolling Loud, but it couldn’t work in such a short time. This had nothing to do with any restrictions from the hosting venue Hard Rock Stadium.”

As the festival welcomed Travis back to the stage, he performed several verses starting with “Hold That Heat” and “Goosebumps.” At Future’s request for Scott to stay, they then performed “March Madness.”

Lil Peep’s Mother Claims His Recording Label Owes Her Millions Of Dollars

Liza Womack, mother of the late emo-rapper Lil Peep, accused his label First Access Entertainment of withholding $4 million in unpaid royalties. Womack also claimed that the label’s actions had been a part of the long-lasting conflict; in 2019, Liza Womack filed a wrongful death lawsuit against First Access Entertainment. Lil Peep tragically died from an overdose in 2017, at the age of 21. The lawsuit accuses those around him of supplying him with drugs and pressuring him to perform.

First Access Entertainment pleaded not guilty to the unpaid royalties charge at a court hearing in Los Angeles on September 28. Instead, they blamed Womack for the payment delays.

“FAE is trying to choke off her funds by denying royalty revenue that they know she’s owed,” Womack’s lawyer stated in open court. “We believe that they’re woefully undercapitalized, we believe they have co-mingled the funds that are due to the estate, and we are very concerned that they’re going to squander that money away.”

In response, First Access Entertainment’s lawyer stated that “It is not true that FAE owes the estate over $4 million. That’s simply not true. That’s just an argument used to gain someone’s sympathy here.”

The 2019 Lawsuit

Lil Peep's Mother Claims Son's Recording Label to Own Her Millions Of Dollars

The 2019 wrongful death lawsuit claimed Lil Peep’s managers ignored both his physical and mental health needs. The artist had been pushed “onto stage after stage in city after city,” while Peep’s team had allegedly been “plying and propping him up” with drugs and prescriptions. These included Xanax, ketamine, and more. Lil Peep also got a refusal from managers when asking to leave the tour. During that same Come Over When You’re Sober pt. 1 tour, Peep fatally overdosed.

Womack also claims one of Peep’s managers had given the late rapper a bottle of pills as a gift while on tour. This allegedly provoked the rapper’s “rampant” drug use and, consequentially, his death.

The legal battle has been ongoing since 2019. “My wrongful death suit is about my son and how people need to be treated and shouldn’t be treated,” Womack told Pitchfork in May 2021.

Lil Peep has also been recently sued himself, together with the late XXXTentacion. The subject of their case is posthumous track “Falling Down,” which allegedly samples another artist’s riff. Read more of our coverage of that case here.

Late Rappers XXXTentacion and Lil Peep Sued For “Falling Down”

Late American rappers XXXTentacion and Lil Peep are being sued. A lawsuit has been filed by Richard Jaden Hoff (K.R.I.O.). Hoff claims rappers’ hit song “Falling Down” featured a guitar riff off his 2018 track “Under My Breath” and sampled it in the single without Hoff’s authorization.

Peep’s sophomore album Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2., features the collaborative bonus track. The single has over 200 million views on YouTube and peaked No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Columbia Records, Sony Entertainment, and several renowned producers from the album are also listed on the lawsuit as defendants. Mike Will Made-It is amongst the producers too.

The Background Story

Richard Hoff released his single “Under My Breath” on SoundCloud in June of 2018. Three months later, “Falling Down” was released on major streaming platforms. Remakes of the song have since been released, such as the version featuring Travis Barker adding drums to the music. Although iLoveMakonnen gave his blessing to release the track, neither artist is named in the lawsuit. These accusations are highly questionable since the rappers being sued are both deceased. Chillingly, Hoff refers to the rappers as if they are alive, claiming they are receiving royalties. The rappers’ estates are not included in the lawsuit.

Lil Peep died in 2017 of a drug overdose, and XXXTentacion was shot and killed just days after the release of Hoff’s song. Unfortunately, neither rapper would see success following the release of the song. Several lawsuits have risen since the rappers’ death, including wrongful death suits from Peep’s family and X’s family’s claims to his estate. Will the rappers rest in peace?

Around 2 months ago, X’s single “Changes” hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. His tracks “Sad!,” “Moonlight,” and “Jocelyn Flores” have also surpassed the billion-stream milestone on Spotify. Be sure to read more here.

Machine Gun Kelly Received Backlash Over Upcoming Movie Name

Machine Gun Kelly Received Backlash from Mac Miller Family over Upcoming Movie Title

Colson Baker, better known as Machine Gun Kelly, recently announced his new movie about a musical artist (played by MGK) working his way up in the industry. In the movie, MGK hopes to pay homage to many deceased rappers. These include Pop Smoke, Mac Miller, Juice WRLD, and Lil Peep. The title originally planned to be “Good News,” a tribute to a song off of Mac Miller’s posthumous album, Circles. Mac Miller’s brother, Miller McCormick, felt the title was disrespectful and insensitive. He expressed his thoughts on it via Instagram.

“F*** you, f*** your movie, at least change the title.”

The producers of the film released a statement apologizing for the decision. They said, “We realize the title, which was intended as a homage to Mac Miller, and other artists gone too soon, feels disrespectful,” and claimed they will change the title. While the title decision initially was one with good intentions, Machine Gun Kelly hopes to respect the families of the deceased rappers above all else.

“We’ve heard from many people on social media who have found offense with the title. So, without hesitation, we will change it.”

The new title is unknown at this time. Production for the film will begin next week. More details are unknown at this time. Hopefully, the deceased rappers that inspired MGK in the film receive respect for their legacy.
