Astroworld Attendees: “It Was A Death Trap”

The Astroworld Festival has shocked the world. Numerous videos have made their way around social media. Now, the attendees who survived are speaking out, adding another angle to the disaster. Concert goers are describing it as a death trap.

One Twitter user shared her very detailed experience, as she was almost a victim of the crowd surge.

Some shared with CNN, that “it got harder to breathe,” as people packed into the Astroworld Festival. Another said, “There was just too many people there. It was overcrowded. The way the barricades were set up had people trapped in. It was a death trap.”

The attendees continue to share gruesome accounts of their experience. They share how they watched as people lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen. Thus leading to the unfortunate chain reaction of sudden crowding to death and injury of many. The crowd surge “caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries,” the city’s fire chief, Samuel Peña, said Saturday morning.

Many of the concertgoers recount seeing multiple lifeless bodies.  However, some are speculating that there were many more than reported. It is unclear as to why there is a discrepancy in the number of reported victims.

Lawsuits are rolling in and are continuing to pile up against Travis Scott, Drake, and Live Nation. The lawsuits are claiming that the performers “incited mayhem.”

The Astroworld Festival adds to the history of  crowd surges

Undoubtedly, this concert is one of the deadliest in recent years. Interestingly enough, this is not the first time Scott has whipped a crowd into mayhem. Scott has had several encounters with authorities after he reportedly “incited” an unruly crowd. In 2017, he prompted concert attendees to overpower security. He was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for inciting a riot.

There is a history of “crowd surges” occurring a large overcrowded events. A crowd surge comes as a result of the environment being unable to safely sustain a large crowd. Read here to see the history of crowd surges .

The festival has rattled many and will leave a lasting effect on those who attended, and those who have heard the numerous accounts shared in the media.  Since this horrific occurrence was preventable, the possibility of it happening again will undoubtedly be a chief concern for concertgoers and organizers alike.

USHER AND LAURYN HILL HEADLINE LOVERS & FRIENDS FESTIVAL

Lovers and Friends Festival

Usher and Lauryn Hill will headline the Lovers & Friends Festival in Las Vegas in 2022. The Hip-Hop and R&B extravaganza will be a nonstop parade of 90’s and 2000’s musical nostalgia. Usher opened his Vegas residency to adoring fans earlier this month. It’s only right that he headlines this widely anticipated festival in the same city.

The music fest features some heavy-hitters. In addition to Usher and Lauryn Hill headlining, Ludacris, TLC, and other headliners will perform.

The festival will finally make its debut next year.

The Lovers & Friends Festival was originally supposed to take place in Los Angeles. It was rescheduled twice in 2020. However, those final plans were abandoned due to the global pandemic. Live Nation, Snoop Dogg, and Bobby Dee will present the festival.

The full Lovers & Friends lineup is as follows:

Usher, Lauryn Hill, Ludacris, Lil Jon, TLC, Ciara, Nelly, Ashanti, Ja Rule, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Brandy, Monica, Timbaland, Akon, T-Pain, Lil Kim, Sean Paul, Fabolous, Eve, The-Dream, Ginuwine, Xscape, Jodeci, Keith Sweat, Mase, Fat Joe, Cassie, Twista, Mya, Cam’ron, SWV, Sean Kingston, Trick Daddy, Pretty Ricky, Joe, Dru Hill, Next, 112, Mario, Donell Jones, Foxy Brown, Trina, Tweet, Amerie, Kelis, Juvenile, Too Short, Ying Yang Twins, Mike Jones, Lloyd, Jon B, Kevin Lyttle, Baby Bash, Frankie J and Nina Sky.

Usher and Lauryn bring excitement, but potential controversy looms

In 2019, Lil Kim was slated to perform at the original Lovers and Friends fest. She later announced that she had nothing to do with the event. Her name was still used to promote the event. Fans began to wonder if the lineup and festival were real, hoping to avoid another Fyre Fest-like dilemma. Lauryn Hill isn’t exactly known for her punctuality, so it’s hard to predict who concertgoers will actually see perform.

The Lovers & Friends Festival will take place at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Tickets start at $175 and will be available for a special presale on August 2 at 10 a.m.  General public tickets will become available for purchase at 2 p.m.
