The Game Once Stole A Skateboard From Tyler, The Creator

The Game is currently on a press run while getting ready to release his new album “Drillmatic – Mind Vs. Heart“. In a recent clip from HipHopDX, he recounts a time when he stole a skateboard from Tyler, the Creator years ago. This was after being asked about their collaboration “Martians vs Goblins” from his 2011 project The R.E.D. Album. Additionally, he hilariously ends off by telling the interviewer that he still has Tyler’s stolen skateboard to this day. The two have always had a pretty positive relationship & this is just another humorous story between respected West Coast rap peers. Here’s the full clip from HipHopDX linked below:

More Details About The Story & Their Friendship

Before stealing the board, he recalls pulling up on the Odd Future leader & the other collective members at a store in California. While Tyler’s crew thought The Game stopped by to say hello, the Compton legend immediately snatched one of their skateboards. Tyler even chased after the rapper who already drove off with the board, and he even reached out to The Game for a few months afterward to have it returned. Again, it’s pretty funny hearing stories about real genuine interactions between industry friends. While the two are still cool, it’d be nice to get a new collaboration between both artists this decade.

The Game Is Still Dropping Music In 2022

As previously mentioned, The Game is dropping a new album this summer that is primarily produced by Hit-Boy. It’s unfortunately seen quite a few delays, but should still be available for fans this summer. So far we’ve gotten two singles including “Violence” & “Eazy” with Kanye West. Despite questions about the upcoming project, one thing that’s certain is The Game’s confidence in his rapping ability is still high. Recently, he even claimed being the biggest & best rapper in the world. Are you ready for new music from one of the West Coast’s best talents?

Tyler, The Creator Might Change His Stage Name

In a recent interview with Fast Company, Tyler, the Creator revealed that he might change his stage name. The California artist uniquely dominated the past decade of music with his former Odd Future collective. It’s rare to see an artist with this much success & influence change their name this late in their career. If there’s one thing we know about Tyler, he’s hard to predict. Tyler has never expressed any past resentment towards the iconic stage name. Regardless, there’s nothing wrong with making changes like this when you’re as established as he is.

Origin Of His Stage Name

His stage name has an exciting & lengthy origin story. According to Tyler himself, “My stage name was from, I made a MySpace page when I was 13– I had 3 of them.” The artist continues, “one was regular for friends, another one was for something else, and then the third one was just ideas. I would put drawings and photos I would take and upload beats on there.” It’s fascinating seeing how the old platform has impacted many music careers, including Tyler’s.

He also said, “I started using that one more, and random people from Kentucky would be, like, ‘Cool beats, bro!’ And so I just kept the Tyler, The Creator thing going and, you know, I’m 17 in high school, around LA, the name’s getting around, and I kind of just kept it as my stage name.”

Why Tyler Might Change His Stage Name

Tyler’s more mature now than his stage name would imply, and this interview confirms that he’s grown past it. In Tyler’s own words, “It’s really dumb, but it stuck with me, so it just works. But my full name, Tyler Okonma, in all caps, just looks really cool. So you might see more of that, I don’t know, I’m getting older, and I think when people get older, they start to realize shit, you just start changing.”

Releases New Single ‘Tabula Rosa

In addition to the album news, Earl dropped a new single from the project called Tabula Rosa. The song features the underground rap duo, Armand Hammer (Billy Woods & Elucid). He delivers a phenomenal & brings tons of energy to their verses to start the record. Earl’s rapping is a form of poetry as he effortlessly flows over the nostalgic vocal samples & glimmering piano keys. The song’s title is the name of a theory stating that the human mind is born with a fresh clean slate. Tabula Rosa‘s music video is recorded with a vintage VHS style and features cameos from Boldy James and London producer Budgie.

The People Could Fly

Earl was working on a completely different project titled The People Could Fly before the pandemic. He explained, “Before the virus, I had been working on an album I named after a book I used to read with my mother (The People Could Fly). Once the lockdowns hit, people couldn’t fly anymore.” Instead, the pandemic itself would spark the idea & inspiration for the album we’re getting on January 14th. The recording process for this project had Earl feeding off the gloomy energy of the angry, exhausted & crippled American citizens.

Tyler, The Creator Drops Yet Another Music Video with ‘CORSO’

Tyler, The Creator, refuses to slow down

If you’ve been keeping up with our site, you know Tyler, The Creator, has been on an absolute media tear for the past month. He’s teased fans with an unusual rollout, dropped a variety of singles, put out sketch videos, and, of course, released his new album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.

But he’s not stopping there.

After releasing music videos for “LUMBERJACK,” “WUSYANAME,” and “JUGGERNAUT,” Tyler is back with a video for “CORSO.”

This video is a little different.

While most of the videos released for the album have been shorter than the songs themselves, “CORSO” comes in at 5-and-a-half minutes. Plus, it’s not just a simple video for the song.

Tyler, The Creator

Tyler’s latest effort serves as somewhat of a cinematic experience. Half of the video tells a story without the track playing. In fact, it even features an unreleased song playing in the background for a portion of the visual.

As of now, Tyler has released six visuals for CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. Known as one of the more visually inclined artists in hip-hop, it won’t be surprising if there’s more to come.

Check out the video for “CORSO” below, and don’t forget to read our review of his new album.

‘CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST’ by Tyler, The Creator: New Album Review

Tyler, The Creator reminds us who he is

It’s been just over two years since Tyler, The Creator delivered IGOR. The mixed-genre album controversially took home the Grammy award for rap album of the year. But his newest effort finds the artist-producer extraordinaire returning to his hip-hop roots.

CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST follows the format of a Gangsta Grillz tape. DJ Drama hosts the entire album, reminiscent of Kid Capri on Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.

While it may be an unwelcomed change for the average Flower Boy or IGOR fan, hardcore rap fans will recognize they’re getting to hear a version of Tyler that’s been absent since 2013’s Wolf. Frequently praised for his production, his exceptional lyrical capabilities have taken a backseat in his recent albums. This album changes that pattern.

Tyler, The Creator

CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST displays Tyler unapologetically as himself. He’s happy in life, he has nothing left to prove and he wants listeners to know that.

With “SIR BAUDELAIRE,” Tyler instantly opens the album with braggadocios bars over a sample-heavy beat. He even calls back his old alter-ego, Wolf Haley. Que chills down the spine of any Odd Future-era fan.

Collaboration is key

Speaking of Odd Future, there’s a Domo Genesis verse on this album. It’s a duo fans haven’t been able to enjoy in years. However, it’s not even close to the most surprising collaboration.

“LEMONHEAD” unexpectedly features 2021 XXL Freshman 42 Dugg. The following track, “WUSYANAME,” has YoungBoy Never Broke Again singing over a 90’s R&B sample. While fans wouldn’t think these street rappers would find a home on a Tyler, The Creator project, they work. Tyler proves that he is nearing a Kanye West-level of bringing the best out of artists, never settling for a lackluster feature.

If any single artist can prove that statement, it’s Lil Wayne. “HOT WIND BLOWS” includes what might be Weezy’s best verse in years. It’s his third time appearing on an album by Tyler, and he’s delivered a standout contribution every time (never forget “Smuckers“). This time, he’s back in his comfort zone with DJ Drama, who hosted his classic Dedication mixtape series.

Tyler is still the star of the show

While the features are impressive, they never outshine Tyler. One of the best tracks on the album comes as a solo effort called “MASSA.” He gets retrospective on his career, detailing his experiences with Cherry Bomb and his breakout single “Yonkers.” The beat builds up and gets more exciting as he continues to reflect on his success.

Every single album he’s put out has featured a multi-part tenth track. The trend continues with “SWEET / I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE,” which features Brent Faiyaz and Fana Hues. The ten-minute track is an instant summer anthem and truly showcases Tyler’s artistry, combining upbeat pop with R&B and reggae.

Things get energetic again with “JUGGERNAUT.” It’s moshpit-bait with contributions from Lil Uzi Vert and Pharrell Williams, and is certainly a standout on the album.

Tyler, The Creator

While the album is largely a statement of self-positivity and happiness, it wouldn’t be a Tyler, The Creator album without a tear-jerker. “WILSHIRE” is an eight-and-a-half minute epic about forbidden love. The only track without DJ Drama drops may be the most personal on the album, and proves to be one of Tyler’s most relatable songs.

In the end, Tyler delivered

By the end of the album, listeners have had a complete experience. A joyous experience. It’s one of Tyler’s best albums to date, if not his top project. The 30-year-old showcases all of his skills to their full extent, and proves that he’s simply one of the best hip-hop artists of the 2000’s.

CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is a beautiful display of life. It’s sincere, it’s fun and it’s impressive. Tyler shared a gem with us.

Tyler, The Creator Drops Single Featuring DJ Drama

Tyler finally drops a new track.

Yesterday, Tyler, The Creator, treated fans to a surprise single. The new song, “LUMBERJACK,” features the former Odd Future frontman spitting braggadocios bars over a hard-hitting beat. Surprisingly, it also features energetic shouts from none other than DJ Drama.

The song’s instrumental comes from the 1994 Gravediggaz track “2 Cups of Blood.”

Tyler also released a music video for the track, though it does not feature the entire song released on streaming services.

He’s getting ready for something big.

In the past couple of weeks, the rapper-producer has been teasing fans about a possible new album. Billboards recently have appeared in various locations. They display a phone number that treats callers to a snippet of new music when they call.

Additionally, he previewed a separate snippet on social media this week.

Tyler

Clearly, Tyler, The Creator, is prepping to release a new project. He’s consistently done this once every two years, dating back to 2009 with his debut mixtape Bastard.

The feature from DJ Drama and an interesting tweet even have fans wondering if the two could be working on a tape for Drama’s famous Gangsta Grillz mixtape series.

Whatever the Grammy-winning artist has planned, we’re ready for it.

Check out “LUMBERJACK” below.

Tyler The Creator Hits Number One With IGOR Album

Salutations FM Trendsetters and FM Hip Hop Heads!  One of the most controversial rappers of this generation, Mr. Golf Wang himself, Tyler The Creator, has been known to be both lyrical and underrated by most.  Some say his controversial madness and conflicts, as well as a media personality,  outshines his talents.  Others say his outlandish behavior seen in public overtakes his incredible punchline and rhyme ability.  Most just say he is just plain “weird“.  Well surprisingly, the Odd Future frontman surpassed the epic Father of Asahd album by DJ Khaled, which makes it the number one album on the Billboard 200.
