Are You Ready For Rihanna’s First Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show?

These milestones occurring as the artist recently welcomed a baby boy into the world, received her first Academy Award nomination and prepares for her big Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in a couple of weeks. Many are hoping for new music during the show, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Setlist Has Been A Secret, New Music?

Rihanna has been doing a great job keeping the setlist under wraps. This is her first ever performance on America’s so-called biggest stage after turning the opportunity down a few years back. Fenty did this to show solidarity with then-NFL quarterback Colin Kapernick, who kneeled during the national anthem in a peaceful protest to police violence against Black people in America. Legends such as Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, The Rolling Stones and so many more have performed for the halftime show.

Savage X Fenty Game Day Collection

The Grammy-winning icon wouldn’t be a smart business woman if she didn’t find a way to fit Savage X Fenty into her huge moment. She shared a new teaser for her new game day collection. Will we see some of the new collection on dancers or even Rih Rih while she performs? We will see on the night of February 12.

RIAA Honors Grandmaster Flash and MC Lyte

As of late, it is more commonplace to see significant institutions honor the cultural impact of hip-hop. Recent months even saw the prestigious Smithsonian Institute celebrate the genre. Likewise, more award shows bestow hip-hop artists with lifetime achievement awards.

Hip-Hop’s Ascendance

The genre’s push into mainstream cultural dominance is now more outwardly apparent than ever. Anecdotally, finding a person who doesn’t listen to rap seems more complex and challenging. As previously reported, hip-hop’s cultural dominance goes well beyond the scope of the United States. Indeed the genre’s popularity and pop cultural domination are undeniable. There is no genre of music as popular.

RIAA’s Honorees

Even so, the previously mentioned examples are not the only ones. The RIAA, Recording Industry Association of America, announced its plans to honor unsung hip-hop legends Grandmaster Flash and MC Lyte at an upcoming event. The RIAA stated the honoring was for “celebrate[ing] pioneers who have defied obstacles…and accelerated the growth of hip-hop…”. The dinner also plans to keep Jeff Harleston of UMG and Democratic House Member Hakeem Jeffries. Both are honored for their contribution to a diverse musical landscape.

The night’s festivities consist of other famed acts honoring their iconic peers. The award presenter includes Dr. Dre, Missy Eliott, DJ Kool, and Yo-Yo. A planned performance featuring Rapsody, Mix Master Mike, and Fresh Prince collaborator DJ Jazzy Jeff. With this impressive cavalcade of entertainers from the golden age of hip-hop, the night will serve as a fitting homage to the beloved genre.

Why It’s Important

Some of the names might be unfamiliar to younger fans, however, that does not mean their contribution should be ignored. On the contrary, all the names listed above served to help the proliferation of hip-hop and helped it become the domineering music of America that it is today. This cannot be forgotten; nights like this are designed to ensure their contributions are not erased.

J. Cole and Lil Baby Go Gold with “pride is the devil”

J. Cole continues to break records with his new album, now his 18th gold plaque with rap star Lil Baby

J. Cole continues to win at everything he does. After dropping one of the most anticipated albums of the year and a stint of playing professional basketball with the Rwanda Patriots, he returned to the States- with a new shiny gold plaque.

The track “p r i d e. i s . t h e . d e v i l.” was one of the highlights of J. Cole’s new album “The Off-Season”. The song was one of the most personal tracks on the album, with a catchy hook and a fantastic Lil’ Baby feature. Lil’ Baby’s reign as the feature killer continues, a title he’s held for the past year now. J. Cole decided to end his trend on no features on the album with stars from Cam’ron to 21 Savage.

Going for Gold

Similarly, Lil’ Baby is coming off some success himself as his collaborative album with Lil’ Durk “The Voice of the Heroes” was met with widespread praise. “pride is the devil” is now certified gold and is the second plaque Cole has received off the album. However, we are pretty sure there will be more with tracks like “amari” having over 11 million views on Youtube and “my life” being his first #1 record on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts.

This song is Lil’ Baby 17th gold plaque, cementing his place as a star in this game. Lil Baby makes the song his own with his signature relentless flow and passion. The Off-Season has been a huge commercial success as Cole earned the largest streaming week of 2021, with over 325.5 million streams in its first week. In addition, the album sold over 250,000 copies in the first week.

Congratulations to Cole for another huge accomplishment!

#FMTrends: Travis Scott: Butterfly Effect Goes Platinum

@travisscottTravis Scott: Butterfly Effect Goes Platinum

Travis Scott can officially add one more platinum record to his collection. Scott’s single, Butterfly Effect sold more than one million copies, which earned the platinum certification status by The Recording Industry Association of America.

Twitter via @TravisScott

From the sound of things, music aficionados are backing the Houston-based rapper 100-percent. The more Scott cranks out lyrics, beats and collaborations; the more fans tune in to stream and buy his music.

For example, Scott’s collaboration with SZA on Love Galore added another platinum star to his roster. Which probably explains why Scott made a pitstop on SZA’s CTRL Tour stop in Houston where the two performed their platinum hit.

And if Pick Up the Phone is in constant rotation on your playlist, well … that single went double platinum too.

OMG, the thought of Scott’s growing success gives me happy chills. Which reminds me, the single – Goosebumps also went platinum in 2017.

This Just In

At the same time Butterfly Effect earned platinum status, Scott also pulled in gold for his songs Through the Late Night and 3500. It looks like these two songs are also on their way to platinum!

Dear Mr. Scott,

You’re definitely on a roll, and you have your hands full with “baby mama to be” Kylie Jenner. Sincere apologies, but and you Kylie are the center of conversation at the moment.

If you were to call me, I would pick up the phone and say “I want more music.” Then I will ask for the FM Hip-Hop team to be invited to the exclusive listening party for your new album AstroWorld. You know…the one you’re teaming up with Quavo on.

What’s the hold-up?

Feel free to hit me us up with a release date for the new album.

Sincerely,

@TCsViews
