Usher Wants To Know Why Confessions Isn’t On The Rolling Stone Best Debut Album List

Rolling Stone Magazine released the Best Debut Album List. 100 albums made the it for making an impact on the music industry. But one artist was left off and he didn’t hold back on questioning why.

Usher Questions Why “Confessions” Didn’t Make Best Debut Album List

On July 1, Rolling Stone complied the top 100 debut albums. Since 2022 is the anniversary of some of the greatest debut albums. And some of the artists on it included Roxy Music, the Clipse, Pavement, and Mary J. However, Usher’s “Confessions” was left off the rundown and he did not hold back from questioning why.

The album, which was released in 2004 includes some of Usher’s hottest hits, including “Yeah” and “Burn.” The album sold over 10.3 million copies in the United States and 15 million copies worldwide. So it definitely deserves some recognize. But it wasn’t his debut album!

Once the magazine released the list and shared the link via Instagram. Usher immediately commented on the post questioning why his Diamond album wasn’t there. And fans didn’t miss a beat before going in on the singer about how that wasn’t his debut album. Some of the comments read,

“do you know what debut means?,” ” I’m concerned that you don’t know what debut means,” “you just going to forget your first 3 albums?”

However, other fans came to the “Yeah” artist’s defense saying that it was just a joke and he wasn’t being serious. While others pointed out that he didn’t realize they were highlighting debut albums. Either way none of Usher’s albums made the cut. But some of the ones that did definitely deserved the recognition. Here’s a list of the top 10 albums featured.

10) Liz Phair, ‘Exile in Guyville’ (1993)

DMX’s Unreleased Gospel Album: What We Know

According to a new Rolling Stone report, the unreleased gospel album of DMX, the late legendary rapper, nearly saw life.

The Possible Gospel Album Of DMX

Per the report, back in 2008, DMX dreamed up a double album. Unlike his previous releases, this one would be venturing into the world of gospel rap. Slated to be titled Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later, the album’s Fly side would be the gospel side of the album. At the time, a tracklist was released, and featured artists were named. Kanye West, Sean Kingston, Tyrese, and Seal were among the possible features.

Indeed, in just one night in 2008, DMX recorded most gospel tracks for the album, says his producer and manager, Pat Gallo. As for Gallo, the producer had difficulties getting X into the studio that night. When he finally got the rapper front and center, DMX allegedly smoked crack in a bathroom, had Gallo drop a beat, then wrote and rapped a song in a single take. Throughout the evening, the process repeated itself until DMX brought seven tracks into the world.

A Project, Shelved

Despite all this energy and promise, the DMX’s album remained in stasis, neither here nor there. A slew of issues kept it from getting released for the summer 2010 drop date. According to Gallo, “constant police surveillance” weighed heavily on DMX and the producer. During this time, X was arrested multiple times. Traffic infractions and parole violations are chief among these. While recording Walk With Me in Arizona, X’s residence was raided by the Maricopa County sheriff’s department. This history led to Canadian music label Her Majesty’s Records being unwilling to release the DMX’s album in the wake of the controversy.

And so, the album sat on the shelf.

Bits And Pieces

You can find the DMX’s album on YouTube entitled “Walk With Me Now (The Prequel),” with the tagline “FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY.” No word on the validity of the album.

A video posted back in 2008 showed “behind the scenes” work on Walk With Me. The footage appears from World Star Hip Hop agonizingly short and even shorter on details.

In 2009, a video for DMX’s “Already” appeared on YouTube. It is unclear if the song is a leak or perhaps more promotional material. “Already” is the second track on Walk With Me, so perhaps it’s legit. It claims to be from “The Mixtape” of Walk With Me.

So, where do things stand now? In Tuesday’s Rolling Stone report, businessman Howard Mann claims to have rights to several DMX songs. Mann claims X signed the rights of Walk With Me over to him. However, a lawyer representing DMX’s estate denies these claims. Gallo himself does not believe Mann. So, for now, Walk With Me remains in a mysterious limbo. It may see the light of day or not. Perhaps, whoever has the tape has lost it entirely. Maybe the Canadians have it.

Playboi Carti No 1. On Rolling Stones Best Hip Hop Albums List; Twitter Reacts

It’s that time of year again; where people look back on the past 365 days and determine the best and worst. In that spirit, Rolling Stone released their list of the 20 best hip-hop albums of 2021  on December 15.

Albums that made the list included big names like Kanye West’s “Donda” at no. 13, Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy at no. 10, Doja Cat’s “Planet Her” at no. 6, and Tyler The Creator’s “Call me if You Get Lost”  at no. 3. Rolling Stone also highlighted critical darlings, placing Little Simz’s “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert” at no. 18 and Pi’erre Bourne’s “The Life of Pi’erre 5” at no. 9.

To many fans, none of that really matters, though. Who made no. 1 this year? Playboi Carti’s polarizing, super-charged “Whole Lotta Red.”

As with any subjective list, some people are not happy with the results, especially. since the album Rolling Stone chose was technically a 2020 album, released on Christmas Day.

Though the album was released in 2020, Rolling Stone argued it defined much of the music of 2021. Rolling Stone writer Jeff Ihaza writes:

“The week between its release and the start of [2021] is irrelevant when you think of what a seismic shift the album represents. Carti stakes ground in the current generation’s sonic sensibility and delivers one of the most forward thinking rap records since Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’… [‘Whole Lotta Red’s’] fingerprints are all over everything we heard in 2021.”

As far as this writer is concerned, let people like whatever they like. Just because they put something at number 1 that you don’t like, it is not the end of the world. People have different opinions and that is fine. In fact, it is even good that people do. It lets people change and grow. It is certainly better than being in a stagnant echo chamber. Kudos to Rolling Stone.

Drakeo The Ruler’s Brother Speaks On Backstage Stabbing

December 18, Drakeo The Ruler was fatally stabbed backstage at the Once Upon A Time In L.A. Festival in Los Angeles. Law enforcement has yet to make any arrests

Since there are no leads, Drakeo’s mother suspects YG to be the culprit. She has vowed to sue the festival for letting the tragedy happen. Meanwhile, Drakeo’s brother broke his silence on his brother’s death in an Instagram post.

“Every time you get out, I went back to beating indictments starting yo own label and even getting a song with drake biggest artist in game, and you did it by yo self you was a self-made boss and a leader, you was my idol and big brother, and I learned a lot from you, and I’m definitely gone make sure they still know the truth,” his post said.

Drakeo The Ruler’s Mom Also Speaks

Ralfy The Plug, Drakeo’s brother, was backstage during the incident. He and his mother spoke to witnesses at the scene and concluded that LA rapper YG and his entourage were involved.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, she explained that a small group of people accompanied Drakeo and Ralfy backstage. Then, about “40 to 60 people” arrived around the same time as YG and surrounded her son and his crew.

“Everything just happened so quickly,” his mother said. “They started trying to jump them.”

According to her, Ralfy tried to help, but someone stabbed his brother.

Meanwhile, K7, Drakeo’s associate, also gave his words in a recent Instagram Live video. He claimed the event was a set-up and blamed YG.

“YG a real-life bitch. All them n***as is bitches, bro. I don’t give a fuck, bro. I’m so mad, bro. On my mama, YG did some hoe shit. If I see cuh, I’m gonna slap the shit out that n***a.”

Drakeo The Ruler’s Mother Wants Justice For His Death

Drakeo The Ruler’s death was the result of a sudden stabbing at the Once Upon A Time festival in L.A. Darrylene Corniel, Drakeo’s mother is out for justice. According to an interview with Rolling Stone, she is planning to take legal action. She shared, “We plan to sue. This happened backstage at an event. Someone has to be held accountable.”

At her Los Angeles residence, Corniel gave a chilling rundown of what she was told took place that night.

Drakeo was scheduled to perform and was accompanied by a small group, including his brother Ralfy the Plug. A reported influx “like 40 to 60 people” arrived around the same time as Compton rapper YG and “swamped” her son and his crew.

According to Corniel, “Everything just happened so quickly,” she said. “They started trying to jump them.” She said Devonte (Ralphy The Plug) tried to protect his brother: “He was trying to fight, but when he turned around, he could see his brother with blood gushing out of him.”

Although she credits pride as playing a part in this tragedy, she incites the failure of security to do their jobs.  “It is such a shame how much jealousy and envy can make people stoop to such low tactics to try to destroy another individual because of fame and progress,” she said. “When you start getting up there, people start getting intimidated. So, I believe, once his platform started going higher, people started getting upset.”

A mothers love

It is unfortunate that a parent has to bury their child. The “senseless act of violence is a reoccurring thing in hip hop. Just so, it leaves the family of the victims to pick up the pieces. She shares the aftermath of seeing her son saying,

“He was hit in his neck. I saw him when I went to the hospital. They said it’s a homicide, so I wasn’t able to hug him or kiss him or anything like that. I had to look at him through a window.”

“I will not rest until justice is served.”

Once Upon A Time…

The Once Upon A Time In L.A. festival was to be a night celebrating music. The festival featured the finest the industry had to offer. With a heavy lineup consisting of acts by 50 Cent, Al Green, YG, Ice Cube, and The Game, entertainment was all but guaranteed. Live Nation hosted the concert at the Banc of California Stadium in L.A.’s Exposition Park. In a statement, Live Nation said the fatal incident happened “in a roadway backstage” and that it caused the festival to end an hour early.

What’s more, Live Nation is amid a sea of lawsuits from Astroworld victims. Fox recently shared that the entertainment company has a lawsuit ridden history. As a result, Live Nations stock plummeted following the tragic Astroworld festival.

Music festival safety is now a top priority for organizers, and a worry for the public. With footage of the incident rotating, it is clear that security competency is a reoccurring issue. While many speculate YG’s involvement, it has not yet been confirmed.

We send our condolences to Drakeo’s family at this time.

Doja Cat Reveals That She Hates Her Stage Name

Doja Cat is one of hip-hop’s brightest new stars. One can say that “new” is a stretch since she has had music out for years. However, she is part of the new school. Doja is the sound for Generation Z. From her songs being in Taco Bell commercials to headlining award shows, she has the juice.

She covers the latest issue of Rolling Stone, where she touched on quite a few interesting topics. One of them is that she dislikes her stage name.

“My image was the pothead hippie girl, and I’m not that,” she said. “[SNL] made a joke the other day that Doja Cat sounds like a Pokémon. And, you know, it didn’t hurt my feelings, but it definitely hurt my feelings.”

Source: Rolling Stone

According to Rolling Stone, her name comes from adoring cats and a type of ganja. The magazine states this saying:

Doja’s stage name derives from both her love of felines (she has two, Alex and Ray) and a marijuana strain (she has since quit smoking weed). But she says she doesn’t love her name, and has in fact tried to change it a few times over the years. An old manager convinced her not to.

Doja Cat also touched on her record deal with producer Dr. Luke. For those who don’t know, Luke was accused of sexually assaulting Kesha but ended up dropping the lawsuit. Eventually, he sued her for defamation. People criticize Doja for working with Dr. Luke so, she made it clear that she doesn’t plan to in the future.

She also “hinted” that she believes Dr. Luke is unfairly credited for some of her songs, in Rolling Stone. Doja followed up with an apology saying that her comments were due to people attributing her success to others, specifically, men.

Hmm, sounds similar to some of the grievances Nicki Minaj has been dealing with during her career.

Doja Cat’s honesty and quirkiness makes her a fascinating hip-hop artist to pay attention to.
