Two Suspects Arrested In Connection To Slim 400 Murder

Police are finally making arrests following the 2021 murder of California rapper Vincent Cohran, commonly known as Slim 400.

RIP Slim 400

Slim 400’s murder took place on Dec 8 last year. The incident occurred in a driveway on the 8600 block of 7th Avenue, Inglewood, CA, around 8:00 pm. In a video caught by a front door security cam, a suspect can clearly be seen holding a gun while approaching 400’s vehicle. Gunshots ring out in the clip as the 34-year-old struggles with the gunman. Following the video, Slim 400 went to a nearby hospital, later sadly pronounced dead.

Of course, this devastated fans and loved ones of the “Word is Bond” artist. Sadly, shootings amongst rising stars in the rap world are all too common. However, at least Slim’s supporters can sigh relief knowing his case isn’t going cold.

Police closing in

The Inglewood police arrested a man and a woman by this Thursday regarding the shooting. Although the authorities haven’t revealed the names and faces of this pair, they confirmed to apprehend the couple through a search warrant. Inglewood Law enforcement previously informed TMZ that they’re investigating the murder as “gang-related.”

Currently, there are no further developments on the possibility of this. According to the TMZ report, there’s been an increased police presence in Inglewood to prevent retaliation killings. So hopefully, the peace will prevail for now.

Slim 400 first started rapping at the ripe age of 12. He connected with fellow west coast artists YG and DJ Mustard after signing to Pushaz Ink in 2008. Since then, Slim continuously made a name for himself within the California music scene. Namely, songs like “Call it a Go” and “Brussin” helped Slim 400 rise to fame. He is survived by his daughter Parris and is fondly remembered.

Slim 400 Investigation Underway, Tourists Warned By Rappers And Police Not To Visit LA

As violence in the city continues, so too does the Slim 400 murder investigation. TMZ reports that Slim 400’s murder comes down to “wrong place, wrong time”, via a police source. TMZ also obtained graphic security camera footage of murder. The rapper was treated on scene by paramedics, taken to area hospital and died soon afterwards of his wounds. No suspects have been named at this time.

Los Angeles, “The City of Angels?”

Reports say a feeling of unease is heavy in Los Angeles, California. Following the killing of Compton rapper Slim 400 (born Vincent Cohran) on Wednesday (December 8) in the City of Inglewood, LA, some big-name rappers are issuing warnings to those wanting to visit the City of Angels.

Los Angeles rappers The Game and G Perico have both voiced concerns. Rather, they’ve given their warnings. Writing on Instagram, The Game posted the following in his story:

“It’s all bad out here rn. Seem like every other day somebody passing away. Last time I saw you tho blood, it was love as usual ru. Rest easy pfonk @slim400blk.”

Yesterday, G Perico gave a simpler warning. On Twitter, his message was painfully short and cut to the point.

Joining the rappers in dolling out warnings is an LAPD detective. Jaimie McBride, director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League went on FOX News  last Tuesday (December 7) with a stark warning:

“We’re telling people, ‘don’t visit because we don’t think we can keep you safe right now.’”

It should be noted that McBride went on to criticize Governor Gavin Newsom, “progressive district attorneys”, and a litany of others for the crime rates in LA. He also compared the situation in LA to the 2013 movie The Purge.  And while there is certainly something to be said about the politics of fear being a mainstay for policing organizations and FOX News alike, this situation appears unique. For once, both rappers and police advocates appear to be on the same side.

Slim 400 was born Vincent Cohran on June 21, 1988, in Frankfurt, Germany. The artist moved to the States as a kid. Pu$haz Ink music label discovered and signed Slim 400, once popularized by YG and DJ Mustard. One Month Before Shooting, LA Radio Station Interviewed Slim 400

“I just feel like when you meant to be here, and God have a plan for you, it ain’t no stoppin’ it,” Slim said at the time. “I hit the ground thinking it was over. My family came out, kept me alive, talking to me, dragging me in the house while they still shooting…My family love her to death for just saving me. I just feel like I’m blessed just to be here ’cause I could have just died then and there.”

Slim 400 stated that he and YG would like to return to their neighborhoods and give back to the streets that helped raise them. Although, he recognized that some people might be jealous because of his visibility and success.

FMHipHop sends condolences to Slim 400’s family.
